Hyperthyroidism Test - Question

I have a question about Hyperthyroid tests - I vaguely remember there being discussions about the T3 vs the T4 test a few years ago on the old forum. I might be getting a test for Bear tomorrow, should I be asking for one or the other, or both T3 and T4?

Any advice is appreciated.

TSH- thyrotropin stimulating hormone - triggers the thyroid to produce thyroxin.
Free T4 - the bioactive/available form of thyroxin which then breaks down into T3 which also is bioactive.

My civie - Monster - is hyperthyroid and I'm hypothyroid.
My 8 year old daughter thought it was hilarious when I explained the difference and what the meds do

Actually, I'm learning more about Hashimoto's thyroiditis and thyroid nodules than I ever wanted to know. *sigh*

I would get both or all the possibilities checked. T3, T4 and free T3 and free T4. Also, not sure if you have visited the Yahoo hyper-t support group but I highly recommend it. Good luck.
