Even before my cat was diagnosed she was always a hungry girl.
Since she was diagnosed the hungriness went up but lately its out of control!
Shes on Lantas and gets insulin 2 times a day. Her levels have been pretty good lately but for the past weeks shes been doing things she never did.

She always knew better then to jump on the dinner table and if i left food on the floor she would leave it. She never liked human food.
But now shes always on top on the dinner table and if we walk away her face is in the food..
I used to be able to trust her but now if i leave anything around shes eating it!

Today i left butter open on my desk and i went to get a cup of coffee in the kitchen to come back and shes licking the butter!!

Its getting frustrating .. I feed her a can of FF twice a day (morning and night when she gets her shots)

I know shes hungry because of the diabetes but her levels are good lately.. Shes been on one unit lately since shes not high.
Is this normal?

You may not be feeding her enough - what is her weight and is it low, normal, or overweight?
Cat Info has guidance on how much to feed.

She could have another diagnosis too - hyperthyroidism comes to mind. If this is a sudden change, I'd encourage a vet visit.

When you say her levels are good - how do you know? Are you testing her at home? If yes, we'd like to see the numbers. It'd help us give you feedback.

Last i went to the vet was in Nov and i was feeding her three times a day. She was at normal weight but started going up in pounds within 2 weeks so the doctor said that i was over feeding her. he told me she will be hungry but we cant over feed her or her condition will not get better.

shes always been a hungry cat.. always eating when i free feed her before she was diagnosed.
But thats why she became over weight and now in the position shes in =/

Its probably just the diabetes then. When she is regulated, that may come down a bit.

Other tactics are using a timed feeder to space out the meals so she never gets too hungry at one time. This also assists with the glucose control.

Hello again, long time no see! We wondered what happened after her almost hypo a few weeks ago!!

if she is too high or too low at times it could be causing her hunger. We would really need to see her numbers...

We would like to help out more but we need to see your results so you need to track them on a spreadsheet - Besides your meter, it's the best tool at your disposal for treating Luscious's diabetes. see here http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=18207

let me know if you can do this,

Wendy

Maui was eating upwards of 3 cans of FF at one time. and honestly I didn't care about weight I was more concerned about her eating and getting better.

so I would say that you need to feed more, either at each meal time and/or feed more frequent meals. and don't get too hung up on how much she should or should not eat. it will balance itself out, as she heals and hopefully goes into remission.

today Maui eats maybe 2 cans of FF daily along with freeze dried raw food. and she is at her healthy, happy weight.
