Finally got my pet meter today. I've been checking Felix's bg levels with human meter up until now. Just now checked his PMPS with both. Human meter showed 141, pet meter-224. Does it sound right? What do I use to continue? which one I should use as my guideline to shoot or not andhow much? I'd really appreciate the feedback.

I started out using a pet meter (the Alpha Trak 2) and eventually switched to a human one (Relion). At first I was nervous--I felt like the human meter was less precise. But now I'm really glad I switched. The test strips for the human meter are WAY less expensive. I can get them at a nearby store instead of ordering them online. And people here find it easier to help me because more of them are familiar with human meters (because that's what they use).

I can't really comment on whether those numbers sound right--I haven't done a comparison in a while--but my advice would be to choose one and stick with it. If I were starting over again, I'd go with the human meter. The most important thing is that you get reliable readings at the low end of the scale, so you can tell whether your kitty is in danger of hypoglycemia--and either meter should work for that.

Both the Tight Regulation Protocol and the Start Low Go Slow method for dosing were written using human meter numbers. However, we have people using them with the AT. One adjustment we've made for TR is that the reduction point of 50 on the human meter is 68 on the AT. The two types of meters read closer together at lower numbers.

For no shoot numbers, that depends whether you are following TR or SLGS. Since Felix is very new to insulin, and you don't have much data yet, I might skip tonight.
