I live in Sweden and we don't have a lot of meters to choose from. I'm currently using G pet glucose meter.

After Bowie reached scary levels (for me) of 3,6mmol/L, I went from 2,5U to 2U of prozinc and his levels are now 8,4-8,7 before insulin, and 4,8-7,6 in nadir.

After this incident, I want to monitor his ketones to be on the safe side, but there's not much to choose from.
I don't think he will accept me sticking a strip under him when he pees.
Can cats also use human ketone meters, or do I need to invest in a Centrivet from abroad?

human ones work fine, several people here use the Nova Max Blood Ketone meter, I used it as well and it worked great. Strips are expensive at about $2 each though.

being in Sweden however, I do not know what your options are.

eBketone seems to be the one over here, availability wise.

Thanks!
Perfect! I'll invest in one and start measuring him.
When in the cycle is best for testing?

When in the cycle is best for testing?

that's a good question and I don't know if it matters to be honest. I have never heard any advice about checking ketones at a particular time of day, we just did it when doing a BG test and would make sure we checked ketones once a day.

Sometimes during a mid-morning BG test, sometimes in the evening.

In my cat, who had high ketones for a long time, I found that ketones did fluctuate throughout the day, but I would not stress about the time of day that you test for ketones. Does Bowie have any history of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). I don’t see that in your signature, so I am thinking that he never went into DKA. I used the NovaMax Plus blood ketone meter, but I live in the U.S.

No, he never had it, but I'm reducing and swapping up his food and he started losing weight because of it (yay) so I wanted to keep an eye on it.
