Instructions for Prime say to put in strip before collecting blood. I am supposed to put in the strip first, pull it out, collect blood and put it in again? Is set up necessary first? I want to be able to test CJ asap and then set up later, if I can.

Right. They don't want you fumbling around to get a strip with an already-bleeding finger (they're assuming you're testing yourself!).

Jeanne's procedure is a good one-- putting the strip in partway to start is helpful when you're working with a kitty. Sometimes it takes a little while to get a good blood droplet, so if you put the strip all the way in before you start it can 'time out' and the machine gives an error.

The only thing I would modify is that, at least with the meters I've used, you have to push in the strip all the way BEFORE using it to sip up the blood droplet. If you try to insert a strip that already has blood in it, my meters would give you an error message because they think that the strip has been used before.

I'd suggest doing a couple test runs testing yourself, just to get a feel for how the meter works, how the strips like to be positioned to sip the blood (I have two meters, and they do it slightly differently, at different angles).
