I just picked up Dasher's Lantus and the gal said it does not need to be kept in the fridge. What does everyone do with theirs? I had planned on keeping it in the refrigerator, is this not a good idea?
also we go tomorrow for the vet to show us how to give the shots and he mentioned that he would want to have Dasher back for a day to check his levels in a month, I can do this myself am I correct?
I hate to stress him by keeping him in a cage for 7 or 8 hours to be tested if this is something I can do myself and a meter.
The syringes they gave me are BD ultra fine needles is this good? Sorry for all the questions I'm just can't read anymore about all of it right now as I went on overload the past two days and started to not remember all that I read. I'm trying to take it one day at a time until at this point.
Thank you all for your help, I'm grateful for this site.

HI Robin,

Lantus doesn't have to be stored in the fridge but it lasts much longer if it is carefully refrigerated.

If you are doing home testing then you can run full curves at home and send the data to your vet. Indeed, a home curve will rule out any vet-stress-influenced numbers. It's just a matter of taking regular BG readings (I think 2-hourly is recommended) over the required period (usually 12 hours, but 24-hour curves are also very informative).

WRT the syringes, can you post the full description? For example, many people here use BD U100 0.3ml Demi syringes (the ones with half-unit markings).

Know what you mean about the brain overload. It does get easier.

Ok thanks, I'll have to look at the syringe pack to see exactly what ones they are. I will discuss home testing with him tomorrow and want him to know I have been educating myself on this. I will not buy into the food they will be pushing as dry food is now a thing of the past for both cats and they already eat FF.

I know it will get easier in time.

Thanks !

Glad to do some small thing to help, Robin. I'd be lost without the help other members have given me since joining FDMB!

Switching to wet food with cat-appropriate ingredients has done wonders for Saoirse. Indeed, I think all of her problems stemmed from dry prescription diets. Now that she's recovering, her coat is so soft and shiny now and she looks so much younger! My vet could not get over the change in her.

When you get a chance, could you go back and edit your first post in the thread and edit it to take down the 911 icon? If you need further answers on this thread, you can change it again to a question mark icon or back to 911 if you have an emergency.
