My cat Garfield is 10 years old. Friday he was diagnosed with diabetes. He was put on ProZinc twice a say. He had not been eating and was lethargic. The vet gave him fluids through IV and the prozinc. All through the weekend he did not eat on his own. I fed him chicken baby food with a syringe. I have offered him many foods, dry, wet, canned tuna, canned chicken, chicken baby food. Still he would not eat. I took him back to the vet today. She has cut down his Prozinc dosage and gave him vallum so that he would eat. He did eat. She sent me home with 3 more doses of it. She says if he does not start eating we will have to put a feeding tube in him. I want to try to avoid this. He is still not eating. Any suggestions on how to get my cat to eat?

Are you home testing to see what his numbers are? Are you also testing for ketones. Home testing is easy to do as is testing for ketones. If the numbers stay high you can run a risk of diabetic ketoacidosis which can kill. When my Doogle was DKA he wouldnt eat and was lethargic. He had high ketones and was in the ER for 3 days. Go out and pick up ketone strips from any drug store or Walmart. Also if you have a Walmart close by and you are in the US, pick up a Relion Micro or Confirm meter, strips, lancets and lancet device. Start testing before shots and during the times in between. I do not use Prozinc but you do need to know how he is reacting. Test numbers will be higher at the vet than at home. Here are some tips on how to home test: Tips for Home Testing

Thank you for the information. I am in the US. And his ketones were very high when tested Friday. I will look into the testing. Again Thank you.

Then with high ketones he needs to be in a 24 hour vet and have special fluids to get them out of his system. Ketones will kill and unless something is done now, you may lose him.

I agree with Donna.
My cat was hospitalized with DKA, and is a DKA survivor. Your kitty may need to stay at a 24 hour hospital for a few days. When J.D. was hopitalized, he came home with a feeding tube because he wouldn't eat at the hospital.
He quickly dispensed with it, the next day, once he was feeling better and home. He was hospitalized for over a week.

What were his ketone readings? Were you able to pick up the urine ketone test strips at the drugstore and test his urine at home?

Also, I think it would be helpful to know what his BG(blood glucose) readings were. I want to make sure we are not confusing BG's with ketones.
