How to collect urine for a keytones test?

When I first got Mooch his sugar levels were high and he was drinking and peeing so much that he'd sometimes have to go while I was in the room with him so I could grab a test strip and get a keytone reading.  Since his sugar levels have been better he doesn't need to pee as much and always goes when I'm out of the room.  I need to recheck his keytone levels so I wondered if anyone had any recommendations for how I could get a urine sample to test.

Things I've heard in the past but not sure how well they work are:
Putting Saran wrap over thd top of the litter
Using something non absorbant like packing peanuts in place of litter

Mooch digs around a lot so I think the second one would work better for him. Are there any tips for making this work of any other ideas that have worked well?

Thanks

i have a spare box with lentils in it that i've used. i just put it and punkin in the laundry room after he eats and wait til he goes.

hadn't thought of packing peanuts, but that's a good idea. i suddenly have an image of his claws hooked in peanuts, though!

LOL. Lentils is a good idea in case I don't have any packing peanuts left.
I'll have the camera ready on my phone in case when I go back in Mooch has static cling and is covered in peanuts

PLEASE POST IT!

You can also stalk your cat to the box and put the ketostix in the urine stream or use a long handled ladle or spoon to get some pee. No static cling that way.

Fish gravel also works.

To spare Mooch the embarassing photos I'm trying the fish gravel approach  I put the new box with fish gravel in the room a couple of hours ago but so far no pee. I got all excited when I saw paw prints in the gravel but I think he was just checking it out. I'll let everyone know if it works

When I have to test Blackie's urine, I take a strip, and stand there behind her to let the stream hit the strip. Sometimes, I'll need to raise her tail, and she looks at me, but I need that test, and to heck with dignity.

If Mooch actually pees when I'm there I can just stick the strip in the stream of pee. But he's a foster cat and living in my spare room at the moment so he's going when I'm not in the room. No luck with the fish gravel yesterday as he managed to hold it for 6 hours and then I put the regular box back and hovered for 30 mins in case he'd jump in and go. He went overnight in the regular litter. I'll try again today...

Finally managed to get a sample. Mooch didn't like the fish gravel and managed to not pee overnight. I removed the box with the fish gravel and after 5 minutes of having the box with the normal litter and a very full bladder he just had to jump in and use it even though I was in the room

The reading was between none and trace so I'll test again as soon as I'm able to get another sample.
