Going to start calling pharmacies today to find out if I can get some u100 syringes without a prescription, or with a vet prescription? (walgreens site says I can get 10 without a prescription in NJ)

Will I be able to get u100 syringes that are the same gauge he's used to and the same needle length I'm used to? Or are they totally different?

Right now we're using Ulticare vetrx u-40 3/10cc, 29gauge, 12.7mm
(with half unit markings)

Also, where do I find the conversion chart and any other info I need to know to use them?

Thanks in advance.

I found this chart on the insulin section of the main page here: http://www.felinediabetes.com/insulin-conversions.htm

I edited our spreadsheet to show two columns for the dose. I enter the u100 syringe amount given, and the u40 column lists the conversion, which I get by multiplying the u100 amount by 0.4. I put a formula into the spreadsheet so it takes care of it automatically.

I am not sure about buying the syringes where you are. Where I live we are able to get them without a prescription without a quantity limit. I order these U-100 half unit syringes from ADW: https://www.adwdiabetes.com/product/18548/ultiguard-u100-pet-31g-3-10cc-8mm-half-unit-5ca They are the same brand as what you are using, but the needle is a little bit shorter and thinner. I like that they come with the sharps container, and by buying a big quantity I brought the overall cost down, plus free shipping for that quantity.

I've seen kitties go into remission when all dry food was eliminated!
Jasper has really good BG On a small dose!
I'm just thinking ,what if you tried eliminating the dry treats? Just a thought!:)

Good luck to You & Jasper :bighug:

He doesn't get any dry food , the only dry thing he gets is purebites but they're zero carbs... you think that could be having an affect?

O carbs? I guess it shouldn't. But I did read that dry food is absorbed differently than wet so I'm not too sure. Did you read the Yellow Sticky note by Dr. Pierson ?
Info Dry Food - PLEASE consider more than just carbohydrate content

Oh yeah definitely, we stopped the dry food altogether at diagnosis. And we stopped all of those dry "Treats" many years ago.

Yeah, the purebites are just freezedried chicken or turkey, nothing added. You think that could still make a difference even though they only get a few ?

It's still "DRY" so I'm thinking as Dr Pierson said, no dry food is good for cats. I'm not sure but it might be worth trying for a while to experiment & see if it does affect his BG.

That's interesting...I keep thinking of it as being inconsequential because 0 carbs , nothing added and they get so little of it but definitely worth considering...

I don't think purebites would be consequential. They are pure meat and 0 carb. That thread by Dr Lisa is in reference to water intake/hydration. If your main meals are wet, it shouldn't be a concern. Plenty of us use purebites as a testing treat (or hunting/play treat). Unless you are filling their bowl with purebites as a meal in lieu of canned food, it shouldn't be a problem.

As for syringes, we ordered our u100s online through ADW. No script was required.
