How soon after they eat?

Mira was diagnosed on the 27th, she came home on insulin and a antibiotic as she had a temp. First day was okay as she didn't expect anything. Yesterday, she was rougher as I had to find her in the house. Now today, she is not wanting to eat because as soon as she was done eating, I would scoop her up and give her her insulin. Our vet didn't say how long after she eats to give it to her, just to give her a shot of two units after she eats. Because I have been getting her right a way, she is being very skittish and gives me "She's gonna get me" eyes

How long after your furbabies eat do you give them their insulin? Because how I'm doing it now, she and I are out.

Also I was reading... I think was the catinfo.org about the wet food.. although I don't know if it's me being overwhelmed and my anxiety ratcheting up or what, but it was confusing.
One minute it would say wet food good! then a line or so down it would say

"Please understand that I am not saying that you should refrain from introducing canned food into a sick cat’s world - because they may even surprise you by favoring canned over dry -but go forward with the above comments in mind while making sure that your cat is consuming enough calories as discussed below."

So I'm a little apprehensive. But after reading other places and I think here, and like I said I have been reading so much that I'm overwhelmed and jumbling different info, but I think if I read it correctly. Feeding only Fancy Feast classic (certain recipes) can make them not need insulin.

What insulin?

For long acting insulins (Lantus, Levemir, ProZinc, PZI), it is test, feed, shoot all within about 15 minutes.

For short acting insulins (Humulin/Novolin N, Vetsulin/Caninsulin) it is. Test feed, wait 15-30 minutes, shoot, because thes have a harsher onset and you need to have food circulating to match up with the insulin, or you risk a hypoglycemic attack.

She's on Novolin N, I plan on starting to home test, I just have to talk my mom into it. Right now, I'm Mira bad guy, I'm giving her her antibiotic, which she has enough for tonight and then probably all tomorrow. Waiting 20-30 minutes will hopefully make it so she's not as skittish. I'm okay with her not liking me... she is pretty much my moms cat, she will come up to me occasionally, or I'll love on her when she's on the back of the couch, but she is definitely a Mama's girl. I would at the very least love to get her to the point where she doesn't walk the perimeter of the room just to avoid me.

Tips:
- Give low carb treats after testing or 3 failed attempts at testing. Ex Halo Liv a Little, Stella & Chewey's freez-dried food.
- wrap small tablets or bits of larger tablets in processed cheese or Pill Pockets. Many times the cat will just eat it.

Dry food is a LOT more calorie dense than wet food. So, when you transition to wet food, you have to feed more volume to get to the same calorie content. This is good for many cats, particularly those whose diabetes is caused by obesity, as the cat can eat more volume and have a full, satisfying meal for fewer calories.

I hope this helps!
