I am feeding my 15 year old diabetic fancy feast. I worry about low blood sugar while I am work. He likes to free feed, but that might change sugar levels if he has eaten closer to testing time. I leave some food out to eat when he wants. Is it better to have certain meal times? Does it matter?

Grazing can work well for many cats.
Using a timed feeder such as the Pet Safe 5 lets you ensure the food is covered in the 2 hours pre-shot.

Thank you very much. I have not had a problem, but glucose has been 300 lately. I am waiting to hear from the vet.

Oh, it matters. The key to maintaining a stable blood sugar is sticking to a schedule. Feedings and insulin delivery at the same time. Portion size is found through trial and error. Every little critter is unique. I find that feeding my cat small frequent feedings works for her. Again, finding what works for you baby is a journey. But, keep a schedule. It can very by 30 minutes on either side of the time and still be okay. Good luck from Jane and Stewey

The shots need to be on a strict schedule. Grazing OR scheduled mini-meals have worked well for folks here.
