How much to shoot?

I just tested Coconut at 8 and hes at 330. I syringe fed the a/d which had some Nutrical in it about 2 or 2 and a half hours earlier. The syringe only holds 2 tsp and I got maybe 2 full ones down (which also had water mixed in.) I'm going to make him some fish to see if he'll eat that and I will also give him more a/d (without Nutrical.) As one can tell by his chart he hasn't had insulin in days due to the fact that he's eaten next to nothing. Should I shoot .5? I definitely don't want to do more to play it safe but should I do less than .5? The normal shoot time is 730 so should I wait til the morning? I don't have the U-100 needles so I can't exactly do smaller amounts
 
I would shoot that reduced dose. No point in letting him just go to the moon with those numbers.
 
btw, i don't think that .5 is a reduced dose....just had a look at your ss. That is your normal dose now.

K thanks :) do you recommend I syringe feed him in the a/m as well? Any idea how much of a 2 tsp syringe would be an adequate feeding?
 
anything you get in him is good. 2 is enuf. more is better.
have you tried baby food?
 
christina, my own rule of thumb is i get as much into tom as i can for his comfort level. when he is DONE i can tell.
the nutrical is high in calories so that takes up that concern.
 
If it helps at all, 1tsp = 5ml in the syringe I'm looking at right now. Well, not a syringe actually, but a dropper style tube we used to use for force feeding wild animals. I've never force fed a cat, but did a lot of feeding of raccoons, squirrels and opossums. We used to buy the droppers in the baby aisle at the grocery store or pharmacy. I seem to remember (but it was 25 years ago) that we originally bought these for medicine dosing our baby girl. We found they worked great for baby animals too. If the hole at the end of the tube is to small, you just cut it back some with a razor blade to make the tube shorter (and the opening wider). Easy to clean too with a baby bottle nipple brush.

One trick that came in handy when having to make an animal eat that didn't want to - put just the tip of the tube in the mouth, and put it in the side near where the jaws join ("corner" of the mouth). It is a shorter distance from the throat, harder for them to spit back out, and they can bite all they want but their teeth never came close together. Very valuable tool when feeding a 'possum - they have 50 teeth!

Lori should I use the Nutrical then for added calories? Thanks Carl, the syringe I got is from cvs it was the only one I found, and the corner of his mouth is the best spot to get it in..he's a stubborn old man and doesn't like to be forced to do things but it's for his own good so I have to torture him..I give him a little catnip afterwards since he's clearly not into food treats
 
Idealy one full syringe of nutrical and at least one full syringe of food (baby food)
and go slow with the nutrical...it is thick and hard to swallow so give him time to lick lick lick in order to swallow.
Maybe syringe some water after the nutrical?
 
A full syringe of Nutrical? The vet tech showed me roughly double the amount you would use to brush your teeth. The first ingredient is corn syrup and all sugar products I don't want him to skyrocket...Also would baby food be better than a/d?
 
I give Tom about a tablespoon's worth. I don't like the ingrediantes either...but look at the nutritional values listed.
It's like ensure...not made of great stuff, but has all the vitamins and minerals needed.
As for baby food. I just found it easier to syringe.
