Hello everyone! Just wanted to thank everybody for wonderful suggestions and recommendations. This is very helpful at this difficult time. I just have another question since there are a lot of very experienced people here. I started feeding Felix LC FF diet and doing 1 u of Lantus Bid. Felix is that kind of cat who will eat as much food as you give him. He is always hungry and always is ready to eat (including night time). My question is how much food to give considering his weight 19.7 lbs. I want to make sure i won't overfeed, so it wound not effect his readings, but at the same time to make sure his bg will not drop. I shoot him at 7 am and 7 pm. What are the best time to feed an how much?thank you all in advance!

As a general formula for Felix's weight, you probably want to stay around 268 calories per day. I think as an average, many feed 4 times a day. So the average FF can is about 89 calories. The easiest way to divide that would be 6 feedings with 1/3 of a can every feeding time . However, calorie restriction isn't super important since you just started, chances are he is going to need extra foods and it shouldn't make him gain weight because his body can't properly use the nutrients from the food, so he's kind of like burning through it.

One nice thing with the L-insulins is they are slower onsetting so kitty just needs about 2T for meals before shot time :). If shot times are 0700 and 1900, here's kind of what I do, or rather could do :D:
  • 0645 / 1845 Take PS test with no food eaten 2 hours prior
  • As long as PS test BG is good for insulin, feed meal (1/3 can).
  • 0700 / 1900 Administer insulin
  • Between +2 and +4 get another test (easier as a before bed test if you work full time)
  • Personally, my boy gets his wet food snack around +4 and his 1T of YAZ at +5 now. I try to feed him his other meals before an expected nadir. This is not mandatory and I may move his YAZ snack to a later time down the road :)
Also if 6 feedings is a bit difficult for you, if my brain is working :bookworm::confused:, you could do 4 feedings with 3/4 can each time.
