Glen is 14lbs. Vet did his measurements and said he is 60% body fat! The vet said he should weigh around 10lbs :eek:
I am working hard on eliminating carbs entirely from his diet, well at least giving him low carb anyways.

If I followed the instructions on the tins of Fancy Feast Glen would get 4.5 tins a day! There is no way he eats that much! He may eat 2 but that's it.

I am giving him other foods as well like Weruva and Wellness.

Just looking for input!

Seems like an awful amount of food!
 
I give mine as much as they want to eat. Generally that comes to slightly under 2 cans/day each.
I think the calculation gets a bit off for overweight cats. Shenandoah started at 15 lbs, but she only wanted to eat around 2 cans/day or slightly under even then. She dropped to 9 lbs after the diet change (vet has been monitoring and she gets regular lab work - I just weigh her every 2-3 days to watch it). She has stabilized at 9 lbs for a while now, and still eats slight under 2 cans/day. So she was really just eating for the weight she should have been, not the weight she was, even though she had the option for more.

I think unless you're seeing a worrisome/unexplained gain or loss in weight, letting him eat what he wants is fine. If the weight is changing, make sure the vet is aware so you can determine if food is the reason, or if there's something else the cause.
