So after reading through various posts, I am going to switch Mojo to an all wet food diet of Fancy Feast (since I know he will eat that). I just don't know how much to feed him. He is a main coon and weighs in at about 20 pounds. He does need to lose a little weight, but I don't want to starve him. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi and welcome. If Mojo is on insulin, be sure you are home testing before you switch since the lower carb food can lower his glucose and he may need a reduction. @Bobbie And Bubba has an equation you can use to determine amount of calories Mojo will need

Hey ColoradoMojo. The formula I use is this. 13.5 X weight + 70= calories a day. Using a 10 lb cat as an example. 10 X 13.5 = 135 +70 = 205 calorie/day.

If Mojo needs to lose some weight ( Bubba did too in the beginning ;) ) use the weight he should be. If it's say 17 lbs use that in the equation.

Can you tell us a bit more about Mojo? When was he diagnosed (DX)
What insulin are you using?
Are you home testing? If not, I would strongly suggest you to so you can keep him safe before you shoot and to know how low the insulin is taking him. If you need help with that, just yell and we can help you learn how to do it.

Glad you found us. This is the best place you never wanted to be. And welcome!!

PS. The Fancy Feast that is low carb is the Classics . While you are shopping for wet food, pick up some medium carb and higher carb food too in case you need to steer up the numbers.

The Fancy Feast low carbs are the Classics

The Fancy Feast medium carbs are the Roasted

The Fancy Feast High Carb are the Gravy Lovers.

ETA: Tip : Mark the carb count of the medium carbs and the high carbs on the top of the can with a sharpie marker so you don't accidentally give those to him . I actually kept my MC and HC in a different pantry.
