Morgaine has diarrhea and has had it since yesterday. She has not had this problem in many years. Last time i gave her acidophilus milk but i know milk has carbs and I do not want to do that. I just got some acidophilus capsules. It says dose is one per day for an adult? How much do i give her? I tried forte Flora and some psyllium but it has not helped so I want to try this. Please advise as to dosage. Also, how long do I continue this before I see results?

I am only feeding her cooked chicken as I want to keep her diet bland until this resolves.

I think it was caused by an L-Carnitine supplement.

Can anyone advise. I gave her 250 mg. per day of L Carnitine for 2 days to help with high triglycerides. I do believe it is the culprit but who knows?

I believe a quarter to a half teaspoon of plain yogurt with active cultures, drained a bit (use a coffee filter), may be a reasonable compromise. The acidophilus in the yogurt breaks down the sugar.

Given that the capsule is intended for an adult human, who may weigh as much as 10 times as the cat, the capsule might be opened and a very small pinch used at a time. If measuring is still a concern, mix it into a known volume of cat food or liquid, then divide that into portions for the amount you want to give.

Thank you! I actually found some info from a vet online. It corresponded to something someone told me so I ended up giving her a full capsule, 1/8th teaspoon 2x a day and mixed in some psyllium powder. The acidophilus powders have different strengths so I think what I am giving her is not the largest strength for humans. Things are a little better but not completely gone yet. She had had one movement today and it was a little less watery.

I'll keep you all posted as to whether this works for her. Fortunately, she drinks water and I gave her some diluted tuna juice to help keep her hydrated. At least things are improving.
