hmmmmm, i think on average adult cats sleep over 16 hours a day.
the other 8 hours they either eat, groom, rest, relax, perhaps play, cause trouble, and rest some more.
resting after a good long sleep is what they do.

Kit sleeps all the time too. Cats sleep anywhere between 13-18 hours a day. If they're not in the litter box, yelling for food, or chasing "IB"s (Imaginary Bugs) then the best bet, they're on the bed asleep

oh, and after a nice nap tom enjoys staring at a blade of grass for an hour or so. he finds it....soothing.

My Sam just turned 13 (give or take) and I just recently noticed he sleeps a lot more than he used to and he's sleeping more soundly. He used to wake up the moment he heard a noise, not so much anymore. It's natural, as they get older they do sleep more.

Hi Marcy, and, of course, you too, sweet Buddy,

I believe it's something like 16 hours a day. I plan to come back as a cat to recover from the lost sleep in this life...

This would be the Zen, one with the universe Tom, right? ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I do come back as a cat, will one of you adopt me? Please say yes...

Love and silly, napping hugs for one and all,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, forever dancing in my heart...

I vaguely recall 80% of the time, so 0.8 * 24 hours = roughly 19.2 hours asleep per day.

Oh BJ,

If and when my darling, quirky Nikki decides her work here is done -- and Ginger finally gets adopted by someone else -- look for a blue-eyed cat strolling up to your front door. I like your cat nap math...

Love and hugs,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, who taught me all about cat naps...

depends on the cat. i think Fuji & Em (approximately 1.5 years old) sleep for exactly 43 seconds whereas others like LePew (almost 17 years old) sleep 26 hours a day :-D

My civie, Mullet, is 14 and sleeps at least 16-18 hours a day. I guess he's run out of ideas on how to keep himself awake.
Bob, my sugarcat, sleeps just about as much. I wake him up sometimes for a bg test, and within 5 minutes of swallowing the treat, he's napping again. I think he might be "faking sleeping" sometimes just so I'll quit poking him with needles.

It's hard to tell, because I don't know what they are doing for the 4 hours or so per night that I actually get to sleep.

Carl

Let's see, Boo is asleep on my arm that is controlling this mouse and Stella is snoring on the couch (a big leap in healing of her Neuropathy! She jumped up to snore  )

The answer for my cats... most of the time. I would have to say 18/19 hours is about right. They are 12. They get annoyed when I make too much noise in the house they share with me. So here I go... quietly tip toeing so I can go to bed and Stella can wake me up howling at invisible prey in the next hour.

lol, it is "their" house. Lucky for you they give you your own bedroom to sleep in. Could be them in bed and you on the couch!

Dear Marci, and, of course, you too, sweet Buddy,

I love this thread...

ROFLMAO again!!!!!!!!!!! I think BJ just lost a potential blue-eyed cat. I like LePew's cat nap math better!

Did I mention I love this thread?

Love and smiling hugs for you all,
Deb and Nikki, who hates eating alone, particularly in the middle of the night -- and, Giz, who used to roll over and sleep on my hair when she actually let me sleep...

PS: Carl, you definitely need more than four hours if you're on baby sea turtle hatching watch... And, Mary? How great is it that Stella jumped up to snore?!?! Awesome!!!! Go Stella!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is Simba at 4 am in the middle of the night, sharing his Simba Love with me in bed. He sleeps all day long only to be awake in the night, comes around 4, 5 or 6 o clock and nibbles and bites on me so I awake, and he doesn't take no for an answer and then we shall share some loving and cuddle for a while. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8M9ue6TyN0

It may be different for others but Punkin typically sleeps about 16 or so hours a day. Wakes me up for breakfast, than gets ready for her shot, then she checks her email (which takes about a half hour) then she usually goes onto Ebay and sees if theres anything she needs, then it's nap time until lunch which is always at high noon. She'll eat, watch a cooking show or two as she slumbers off to nappy land. Then wakes and chases Becky for about ten minutes then it's nappy time again. Then wakes to watch the nightly news right before dinner. Naps a little more before shot time. Chases Becky another five or ten minutes. Checks her email again, then it's nappy time unless there's something on the tv she wants to watch. Then day's over.

Dearest Ann, and, of course, Simba and Gustav,

Simba's purr is so loud he could qualify as a percussion instrument!

Nikki is a quirky mystery since she felt the need to rescue me around age 8. Guessing... She really doesn't do beds. But she owns me on the couch.

I love my bed. I also love Nikki.

On the rare/or nightly occasion she visits me upstairs, she has developed two distinct approaches in the three years and change we've been dancing. When she's Ninja Nikki, also known as stealth Nikki, I know she has food downstairs and is simply looking for and will accept sleepy company to rub her buns. She does this whole quiet walk and paw step deal. When whiskers kiss my smiling cheeks from being tickled, and she just says in her Betty Boop voice, Since you're up... Hey, no one likes to eat alone, right?

Then, there's the other Nikki, who I firmly believe was a urologist in another life. She thumps on the bed with authority. Stomps over to me. Jumps with a perfect trajectory aimed directly at my bladder, and lands exactly where she aims in the dark. She was probably a good urologist. This means there's no food and I must go downstairs (after peeing...) to feed her immediately. Bun rubbing is optional, but always given. Hey, I'm up, right?

I'd like to think Giz chose well sending me Nikki. It's a quirky understanding kind of love. Then again, Giz might just be laughing her you know what off at The Bridge and that's why she sent me a sugar cat who loves her buns rubbed in the middle of the friggin night. Guessing...

Oh well, Giz also left me a pair of well-worn, steel-tipped sugar toe shoes... They've come in handy with Nikki...

Love and hugs for you, dearest Ann, and Simba the furry purrcussionist, and Gustav,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, who taught me how to dance...

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!! You, too, could be a contender for a blue-eyed cat in my next life!

Thank you!

I was a goner when Punkin checks her email (which takes about a half hour)... Shopping on Ebay? Priceless!

Oh my God, what joy this thread brings... Thank you so very much for asking your question, dear Marci! You, too, probably napping, Buddy...

Love and hugs for you all,

Lets see it is 9:27 am on a Saturday morning, at 4:45am Amon Ra began to scream for Breakfast was ignored until 6am at which time both Mom and Dad crawled their sleepy bodies out of bed to, let the dog out, grab a cup of coffee, wipe sleep from eyes, test Musette, and feed their Royal personages. By 6:45 am almost all of them were either back to sleep or contemplating what will make the most noise at 2am on window sills in the sun. Except of course the 1 yr. old Sh*tten Myrrdin who was riding the broom as I was trying to sweep up pet hair and kicked out kitty litter. Now all are sound sleep because I have given up on sweeping and cleaning the house to sit down for a few.

Depending on when I get back up to finish cleaning the house today, will be exactly the amount of time most of them will wake up, now if I don't move been now and 11:30am they will remain aleep. Then at 11:15 am several will wake up and start demanding to be fed,(usually the loudest of the meezers), until I go in get a +5 on Musette, and feed their Royal personages again...lol This continues every 5 hours, with spurts of activity through out the day, usually invovling me screaming at someone to get off that, leave that alone, get out of there, or break it up! Until somewhere around 10pm when DH and I crawl our fannies back to bed, to have Maxwell, Musette & Lady Jane Grey spend several hours, jumping on and off the bed, head butting, wanting snuggle time, and basically getting comfy. About the time they settle down to sleep, those that have plotted what will make the most noise early today, will succeed in pushing said object off the highest point possible.

Rinse and repeat on Sunday. So I would say about 18-20 hours a day, depending on how much work or sleep their humans tries to get in during the day.

Carl...it is their house, and trust me...it has happened!

And, Mary? How great is it that Stella jumped up to snore?!?! Awesome!!!! Go Stella!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for catching that big 'win'. Her sleep paid off...she woke me up when she had had enough of it with her big howl at her invisible prey...just as I knew she would. ;-)

I hope everybody is having a lovely morning! ~O) This thread is priceless. :-D

Thread is priceless YES!
My Tom likes to sleep almost everyday day when the weather is nice in the afternoons under a big shady tree up the hill in my backyard. He has a well worn spot in the knee high grass (weeds?) and slumbers the afternoons their.
As of late, with my dissatisfaction at his amount of food consumption, I have found myself in the kitchen about 1 or so...handwashing and sissor cutting (that is what Beth told me) pieces of raw chicken livers and delivering (room service style) the desirable plate to his lordship up the hill.
Let me describe for you the hill. Altho it is on my property, it is hard for me to reach. Between the gofers who have made this barren hill a slippery sand pile, and the fact that it IS a slippery sand pile even without their help, I literally have to be at some point on all fours to avoid slipping.
As I reach the top....the lovely grasses are their, the apricot tree, the plum tree, the stray big whatever tree that Tom likes, these are the only greens in the yard. I extend my arm with the raw sissor cut livers in bowl in hand to offer to his Lordship who rests in a place I can't quite reach. He extends a nose...a sniff you might say....and IF in the mood makes me giddy happy by standing, stretching and EATING IT!!!!! Sometimes I am not so fortunate. He sniffs and returns to sleep. I, with deep saddness slide back down the hill, raw liver in hand. I go home deeply dissapointed and sit wondering what else I can present his lordship with that might interest him.....OH WAIT>>>>>> I HAVE AN IDEA!

Deb, were it not such a gross diet....would you want me to adopt blue eyed kitty?

Oh yeah Deb if you won't mind sharing a room with several other kitties, I'm always a sucker for a homeless blue-eyed kitty, I would adopt you in a heart-beat, as I'm no stranger to the care and comfort of the blue-eyed variety...Since I am now currently owned by 4 of them

Milo is a weird OTJ kitty. He sleeps maybe 4 hours a day then all night in bed with us. Honestly he is up most of the time from following me...helping or just watching to see what is going on. He is 10 years old and I have never had a cat like him....he is crazy and more like a dog than a cat. He will just sit on a bench in the kitchen waiting for his feeder to go off (he gets fed wet food every 3-4 hours during the day). Gets his last snack at night before we go off to bed... I know one day he will start to sleep more and more as he gets older but he is a fun one.

Funny how all kitties are different.....

Dear Milo's mommy, and, of course, you too, apparently not so sweet Milo,

Have you considered Milo might be a dog wearing a cat suit?

Love and curious hugs,
Deb and Nikki, napping -- and, Giz, forever dancing and napping in my heart...

PS: Dearest Lori, we'd have to discuss that menu before my next life... Dearest Mel, I'd like to think I won't be an only. They're just too damn hard to find homes for...
