Rocky was diagnosed 6/26/17 Hes been on Lantus since 6/28/17 . The vet prescribed 1 u once a day. I give it at 6pm every night. Ive been reading and a lot of ppl are giving it twice a day. I plan to call the vet and ask about uping his dose ti 2 xs a day. I just switched him to raw/wet diet 6 days ago hoping that will help him to. I am also checking his BG at home with a Relion Micro Meter . His numbers range from mid 200- to high 300. Yesterday is lowest was 262 and highest was 349. This morning around 8 he was at 394 . Just curious about other kittys on Lantus

Hello and welcome. An expression you will hear often around here is ECID - each cat is different. It is really true when it comes to diabetes. We've had kitties on just small drops of insulin and some with high dose conditions getting 60 units twice a day. You are right that cats seem to do better on twice a day dosing. They have higher metabolisms than people who only take Lantus once a day. Also making the switch to low carb wet and/or raw was a good one. It can make a huge difference in the amount of insulin needed.

Most of us here put our blood test data in a spreadsheet. It is a great tool we use and can help us help you with dosing decisions. The instructions for the spreadsheet are here.

Hi and welcome to the best place you never wanted to be!

Good job testing as it is so important to know that it is safe to give the insulin. And yes, twice a day for the insulin is the standard way to treat feline diabetes. And not to say anything bad about your vet, most vets just don't know enough about Feline Diabetes (FD) as a lot of Beans will euthanize their kitty when getting this DX. And vets get about the equivalent of 8 hours of instruction on FD.

Switching to an all raw diet will help those numbers come down also, so testing always before each shot and getting a mid cycle test is going to be very important.

Wendy gave you the link for setting up a SS so you can see how low the dose is taking Rocky and it will help us to help you with dose questions. If you have any trouble setting it up just yell and someone will help you. ( Won't be me as I am a tech mo-mo)

Mo-mo?

MoMo ...in the Urban Dictionary it says:

Another way of saying "Moron".

"I can't believe you screwed that up! Nice job, Mo Mo!"
Thanks Chris, that would be me and tech stuff. I got the expression from the comedian David Brenner. He was the cleanest mouth comedian I ever saw and he would refer to morons as MoMo's. It sounds nicer doesn't it?
