I gave Gus budesonide last year when he stopped eating and it seemed like it worked pretty quickly to stimulate his appetite and relieve the pain and inflammation in his gut. Today was only his second dose, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything for his appetite so far. I'm giving mirtazapine as well every other day, but that seems to not be working as well as it did.

What is your experience with how long it took for budesonide o wok on the appetite?

Thank you for your input. I'm very stressed.

I don't know what the first drug is but there is another appetite stimulant that people use that can be given daily, Cyproheptadine. It seems to be the more preferred appetite stimulant from what I have read online. I have only had success with Mirtazapine but that seems to be less common. Plus it can only be given every few days and can have more side effects.

Budesonide is a steroid that essentially remains in the GI tract and has letter effect on the whole body. It is not an appetite stimulant. It is typically used for IBD and some other GI problems. It may tend to stimulate appetite only by helping to resolve the GI problem.I have used budesonide for three of mine.

If the problem isn't inflammation, the budesonide may not have much impact on appetite.
