How long does YOUR Lantus last?

I have a vial of Lantus, not the pens. I'm beginning to wonder if it's losing it's mojo? My vet and pharmacist said it can last up to 2-3 months if you treat it kindly, but I also just read something saying it is a very hearty medium and can last up to 6 months with the proper handling. I keep mine in its box in the fridge (to protect from light and control temperature)

What happens when it starts going "bad?" Does it just lose it's potency so you feel like you're giving fur shots or do the numbers just get weird, leaving you bewildered and confused for several cycles?

Just looking for some real world experience, although I understand many folks in LL use the pens.

Members on the German forum indicate they can get up to 6 mos from their Lantus.

If Lantus is getting toasty, I've generally seen weird numbers. There's much more inconsistency.

Hmmm - ok. I'm coming up on 3 months, but I still have about 1/2 a vial. It would be a shame to waste it. I'll give it a few more cycles, but hold the juice suspect if he doesn't straighten up.

Racci's vial usually takes 4-5 months to use up and it has never gone bad yet. I keep it refrigerated in an empty plastic strip container inside a box.

I use my vial 4 months but could probably use it longer. I bought a new vial recently as Maggie's numbers started to spike. With the new vial her numbers were still high, so this told me it wasn't the vial and something else was going on. I would say 5-6 months if stored carefully and not dropped.

Thanks for the input! I did pick up a new vial yesterday, as I hadn't been the best host for my first Lantus vial. As a newb, I did things like shoot air into the liquid and I adjusted the dose with the syringe still in the vial, etc. I have since been educated and this new vial will be treated properly. So...I'm hoping Buster's numbers turn around soon!
