? How long does Lantis stay effective?

So my vet tells me Lantis is effective for 6 months.

Been reading other things that tell me that may not be so.

Any thoughts are appreciated.
 
Do u mean how long it lasts in pen or vial?
I use mine till then end of it, unless it looks cloudy or floating things which has never happened
I keep in frig on middle shelf
 
Thank you all. I have a vial. They told me it would last 6 months from the first time I pulled from it, so this is all great information!

some will last up to around 6 months....but the real way to know is by home testing....if the numbers start to go up for no reason, it's time to suspect the insulin is loosing efficacy.

Pens are better because they only hold 300 units each and the rest of the box of pens is kept in the fridge and will stay effective until at least the expiration date on the box (usually about 2 years)
 
Thanks great information. Are the pens more expensive that the vials?

Have to be honest, I was shocked to pay $300 for a vial of Lantis.
 
When Lantus went over $200 for a vial, I had to make a decision to either take China off of it, or find someplace I could afford it....that's when I went on a several month search and found Marks Marine Pharmacy in Canada

Another nice thing about buying from Marks is that once they have a script on file, you can refill when necessary....You don't have to submit a new script every year like you do in the US.

The box of 5 pens is a total of 1500 units....a vial is 1000 units (and unless your cat ends up on a pretty high dose, you'll end up throwing some of it away when it starts to lose efficacy)

That makes the pens the best buy!
 
I used pens to the last drop but half used vials were no good at 6 months.
