? How long does it take for Lantus to start working?

I know for some people that taking insulin doesn't immediately result in much of anything, for at least a week or two - but is it the same in cats? I was finally able to test 2+ his PM dose and was surprised to see a higher, not lower number.

With our dosing methods, initial doses are held 5-7 days, depending which dosing method is followed. With only the PM shots and the one other tonight, I can't say what's happening. Tonight's higher +2 could be caused by several things. A bounce from going lower than he's used to at some point today, his onset is later than +2, he got into higher carb food, he saw something scary after dinner, not all the shot got in.

Lantus is a depot insulin and when first started it can take up to a week for the depot to fill and for the full effect of the dose to be felt.
Why have you got n/a in the AMPS column of all the doses you have given so far?
It is really important that you always take the BG before giving the dose of insulin to make sure it is safe to do so. Never assume it is safe.
Also you need to be taking some tests during the cycles to see how low the dose is taking Black.
Lantus dosing is based on the nadir or lowest point in the cycles, not the preshot number.

Can you tell me a bit more about what you are feeding Black. Why are you feeding him the Royal canin renal D which is high carb?
Can you please set up the signature and put some informaton in your signature please such as date of diagnosis, type of meter and insulin, type of food, any other illnesses or medications.

RE: Diet, I tried a few times with several Weruva flavors, got an enthusiastic reaction the first or second time, then complete disinterest after that. Since he doesn't free feed, I don't want him to starve since he will just not eat rather than try and get through the food. I should also note that he does not eat dry food, he has been on a wet diet since before he was diagnosed with diabetes, as a way to handle his CKD.

As for the N/As, it turns out I had expired test strips which offer wildly inaccurate readings, I finally received new strips today which is why I tested more today.

What stage CKD is Black? If he is not late stage there could be a variety of canned foods you could offer.
I can see you have uploaded some lab results.
His phosphorus level is OK
His BUN and creatinine is up a bit.
