How long after test&feeding do you wait to give shot?

Trying something new, testing before giving shot instead of just 3 or 6 hours later. I've just tested her (it took almost 400 pokes, I don't know why I can never get blood before she eats) and I'm not sure how long to wait. Normally I'd wait about 1/2 after eating for shot. Should I maintain that? Or just go ahead and give her the dose because I already know that she's 325?

I usualy shoot while.Cass is eating. If your cat tends to vomit after eating too fast you may want to wait to see if it stays down. Half an hour should be sufficient.

I always wait about 20 mins to be certain Kitty holds the food down. You are shooting the 325, but your dose also is taking into effect that more carbs will be on board. I always wait a little, once I shot and Kitty threw up the food and we got unexpectedly low BGs that cycle, due to the lack of carbs.

I do know some shoot while they are eating...I am not sure there is a right or wrong answer on this, but more a personal comfort level.

Just my thoughts.....

Oh, this just popped out at me!

You had only been testing 3 and/or 6 hours after the shot? And not just before the shot?
The absolutely most important test is the one you do just before shooting the insulin. There will be times when that number is low, like below 150 for instance. You wouldn't expect it to be, but it happens. If her normal reading then is say 350, and she drops 200 points usually by +6..... well, you can do the math. You can't subtract 200 if you are starting off with a 150.
It is important that you test around nadir (+6 or so) so you can see how effective a given dose is. But the only safe way to manage this condition is to know for sure what the BG is before you put any insulin into the system. Once the shot goes in, you can't get it back out. It is going to do what it is supposed to do. In some cases, that is "too much".
