I know every situation is different, but I was wondering how long it took for others' cats' glucose levels to come down after a dental, if they came down at all? It has only been a couple days for us...I imagine it must take at least a week...?

Depending on what sort of work was done with the dental..cleaning, extraction, etc it can take awhile for the pain of the work to ease up. When my Maxie had her dental she had the cleaning and 6 extractions. Even with the bupe for pain relief it still took her over a week before she was acting more like herself.

In my case the dental did not really make much difference with her glucose numbers,(over 1 1/2 months ago now) but it helped improve her appetite since she was much more comfortable when eating. Having a dental done is important, but it doesn't guarantee that the glucose levels will drop. Sometimes there are other issues at play or it will just take time for the pancreas to heal more,

The first two times we did dentals, China's numbers slowly got worse so her dose slowly went up

This last one we did on March 24th, she's come down a whole unit so far!

I'd say expect at least a week or two to give plenty of time for healing and pain to be gone before expecting too much, but it's very much going to be one of those ECID things (as well as EDID!! ...Every Dental is Different!)

Thank you for the input everyone... It's good to know that sometimes the insulin needs increased so I can be prepared. This is our third dental, but the first after diabetes dx. Three teeth were removed as well as some gum tissue for histology as it didn't look "right".

He eats like a champ...he never even was adverse to eating before the dental.

The worst part is giving the antibiotics; Maximus is wonderful for everything except pills. I get them in, but it isn't pleasant.

The timing of his numbers going a bit wonky coincided with the discovery of the need for a dental so I'm really hoping they settle once he has healed.
