Re: How fast to drop?
I just want to reiterate what Sue said. Test for ketones FREQUENTLY. Grayson was holding relatively flat in the 300s for cycle after cycle after cycle. Then suddently I had MODERATE ketones and needed to jack up his insulin and do everything to address the ketones. That was Feb 23rd - I'm still giving fluids and my insulin went up 10X in a couple of weeks. I wouldn't want you to go through that, if you can avoid it. So TEST, TEST, TEST! And ask your husband to do the same. DKA can be dangerous - keeping a check on the ketones will prevent you from that cliff.
Based on what I've seen in my two short months, I would think an increase would be in order. I understand not wanting to make too many changes that require a lot of attention when you're gone, but I think my fear of ketones would make me want to do it if I were in your shoes.
I've placed a litter box on a table close to my computer, so that as soon as Grayson heads to the box, I'm there w/ my strip. When it's on the floor, i often don't notice him in the box until he's covering it up!
Good luck with whichever you decide to do.
