How do you set up a template in Google Docs?

I set up a TID spreadsheet and was trying to share it so that others could use it. I have not set up a template previously in Google Docs and don't think I did it correctly because though others were able to edit it, the now edited version is showing up in MY files area with me as an owner and with her changes. That's not quite what I intended. What I want is the SS to be something people can download, and store and edit in THEIR documents area, with the original template unchanged in MY area. Sort of like sharing an Excel spreadsheet with another, in other words.

I set up two copies of the SS just in case something went amiss -- one that is protected and the other shared. The template I attempted to share is now renamed by the person I shared it with so sharing it with others I fear may result in people changing the SS she set up. I can handle Excel just fine, but Google mystifies me a little even after reading the documentation.

I had started with the template someone shared here long ago and modified it for TID. I don't recall that SS acting the way this one is, so I must have done something wrong. Is what I wanted to do possible in Google Docs? The way it is acting it is like a bunch of people sharing one spreadsheet on which we all enter our data on vs. the separate spreadsheets that are our own that I wanted. Hope this makes sense.

Hi Wendy, and, of course, you too, sweet Shaikha,

Have you tried the Tech Forum here? I'm pretty sure there's a post, or maybe even a stickie, to tell you how to do it correctly/functionally.

I personally don't know. I'm old school and keep a log book...

Love and technical hugs for you and Shaikha,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, who literally taught and had 10 volumes of log books...

I didn't realize there was a tech forum here. Will make a post there too. Thanks!

You go, Wendy!

I understand there may be a glitch or two starting up; but, I have faith in you. Good luck!

Love and encouraging -- albeit log book -- kind of hugs for you and Shaikha,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, forever dancing in my heart...
