do you this BG should be regulated first before using it or can I do both because hes neuropathy is not getting any better

Hello, and welcome to FDMB!

When my cat was diagnosed with diabetes he also had bad neuropathy. His neuropathy even got worse after he was DX because his blood glucose was pretty bad despite his being on insulin. So, no, don't wait before starting your cat on methyl B12. I believe that the methyl B12 made a huge difference to our cat! I honestly thought he'd never walk properly again; but he recovered the use of his back legs really fast. Encouraging your cat to exercise also helps the nerve damage to heal.

I think most people on this forum use methyl B12 as 'Zobaline' tablets. They seem to have little taste as many people can mix them into the cat's food and the cat doesn't notice.... You can buy them here: http://www.lifelinknet.com/siteResources/Products/Zobaline.asp There may be other places you can get them too. I'm sure folks will let you know if that's the case.

Methylcobalamin is wonderful for cats with neuropathy. Bandit never had neuropathy, but Syd (a good friend's diabetic cat) had severe neuropathy and could not walk more than 2 or 3 steps at a time (nor make it to the llitterbox). We saw good improvement within 2 weeks of starting the Methyl B12, and today (about a year later) Syd is fully recovered and in remission, and sprinting around his house like a crazy cat.

You can start Methyl B12 immediately--in fact, it tends to help with regulation because it helps reduce the pain from neuropathy, and pain can keep BG high. Exercise will also help with recovery--you want to get those limbs moving. Obviously, you're not going to see the cat sprint around the house right away, but encourage him to walk from one end of the house to the other, or up and down the stairs (perhaps with diabetic safe treats) a few times a day.

The zobaline tablets are fine, but they are a bit overpriced and a bigger pain to administer than just the Methycombalamin capsules, in my opinion. There is nothing that makes zobaline better for cats than regular Methyl B12 (except for the packaging). I got these capsules on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Vitacost-Vita...5000/dp/B0046HLOTY/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20. For $4 more than what you're paying for the zobaline, you get 40 more doses. And you don't have to crush anything because the content of the capsule is already in powdered form.

You just open up a capsule and mix it with food (once a day), and it works great. The recommended dose for cats is 3-5mg (3000-5000mcg) per day. Since you can't overdose Methyl B12 (the cat will pee out any excess) I personally think it's best to go with max dose because it could be more effective, and there's nothing to lose if it's not. But really, it's just a matter of preference, and either option is perfectly fine.

the vitacost one that you ordered is what I used for Maui - easy breezy to use - open capsule and mix one in food per day. see easy peasy....

with Maui she was walking on her hocks (with her back legs) and would slide across the floor and have to stop and rest when walking. with insulin and the methyl B12 - it seemed to happen all at once that one day she was slip sliding and the next she was back on her toes.

good luck!

I use the one from Vitacost in the capsule where I can just dump the powder and mix in the food.
The major diference between it and the zobaline is that the one from vitacost does have a trace of rice flour so for someone wanting
purer methylcobamin for a highly sensitive cat - zobaline would be better.

I have never had it effect my cat's bg at all.
And I will give it to my cat forevermore, even though we are currently otj.
It's a B vitamin so the body pees out what it doesn't need. So no one can get too much in a dose.

I even have my diabetic grandmother on it now too.
And you can get it at local drugstores, you just want to take a magnifying glass and read what else they put in it, and I would always
hunt for capsules over tablets. I found several possible bottles of it but I prefer the Vitacost one, buy one get one free.
