Hi Peggy,

I see you are new and wanted to say hello. There seem to be very few people on right now, so I thought I would respond.

You will find a lot of support and info here.

It is good you are testing and from what you have listed those numbers are looking good so far. Also a good sign she is peeing less. Great start!

If you can set up a signature with your kitty’s details that would be helpful. I know you have some of this info listed in your post, but if you have in a signature it will always be at the bottom of every post and people wont have to ask you all the time.

Here's how:
click on your name in the upper right corner of this page
click on "signature" in the menu that drops down
type the following in the box that opens: kitty's name/age/date of diabetes diagnosis/insulin you're using and dosage amount /glucose meter you're using/what (s)he eats/any other meds or health issues (s)he has. You can add your name, and a geographic location (sometimes the time zone matters) Be sure to SAVE when you are finished.

Also for testing we use a spreadsheet here to record the insulin and testing data to see how the insulin is affecting our kitties. Then we can take a look at it before offering any suggestions or advice. See link below.

You can also post in the Lantus forum and more experienced members can offer better guidance on where to go from where you are now. Looks like you are in good numbers, with more data and testing on your spreadsheet experienced members can help you with future dosing.

I am using Lantus, but am pretty new myself:)

I am copying a longer time member in case she wants to add anything.

Hi Peggy, I was away from the board most of the day, and I am so glad that Julie responded to your post. I suggest that you be more specific in your title, so that you get more attention to your questions. You could say that you are a brand new member and need some help with understanding the BG numbers, or something to the effect. Visiting the Lantus forum, reading those stickies at the top and posting there is very good advice.

I agree with you that Kitty's numbers are looking a whole lot better than that initial 400, but remember that vet visits and all the fussing there can really raise the BG. I am so very glad you are testing at home, and I think the Lantus members will want to look at that dosage of 2 Units and perhaps offer some advice. It may be too much and I am not qualified to make that judgement. I have read that 1 Unit is the usual starting dose.

Please do make the signature and get the spreadsheet set up. We are data driven here and the more data you can provide the better. We need to know what she's eating, and how much, how heavy she is..those things will be in the signature and you won't have to repeat the information. The following link will help you understand the spreadsheet and how to use it.

Fill in that testing data you have then please post in the LANTUS Forum for advice about the insulin dose as soon as possible.

I will direct you to the instructions for how to handle a hypo and what to have on hand. You may never need them (paws crossed) but better prepared than not, right? http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/forums/health-links-faqs-about-feline-diabetes.14/
