Hoot went OTJ on 11/18/2012. His BG is now hovering in the low 200's. :o I know he has been into some contraband, but thought it might go back down once I removed the source, but it hasn't. I have updated his SS and the vet ordered some Lantus, but I have not even picked it up yet. Just want some advice on what to do from all of you. You are the best! He has not been to the vet for blood work since he was diagnosed in October, 2012. We are so bummed for Hoot! He was doing so good! He looks great again, gained all his weight back and was back to his old self. But I know with all of your help we will get him back on track again!

Thanks,
Pam & Hoot

Have you seen any of the "classic" symptoms return, like increased drinking and peeing? Eating more but losing weight?

Or should I say all of them but not to bad. It hasn't been long enough for me to see any weight loss, although he is acting very hungry again, and he really isn't drinking much at all. But when he is feeling good he doesn't drink anything.

Hi Pam and sweet Hoot! Welcome back even tho' we'd rather not see you... :-D :-D

No big deal if he needs a little extra support for a while! His body's been working hard to control this by himself, maybe Mr. P just needs a little rest for a bit....

BIG HUGS!!!!

Hi, guys. Sorry to see you back.

Did the vet run labs and is there any chance that Hoot needs a dental? While contraband can throw a monkey wrench into things, if there was a slow brewing health issue, it can be contributing, as well.

No, I have not had him back to the vet yet. It's only been 3 days that I know of since his BG has been this high. I wanted to check with all of you first. I did call the vet this morning and he was going to call in some Lantus for me. But I will wait to pick it up until after I get blood work done. I have never had a dental done on Hoot. Is it just a cleaning?

Ok, I just made an app for his dental for next Thursday. Should I just wait on the Lantus till then?

I think I'd be inclined to hold off until the vet says for sure that the diabetes is behind the numbers.
The dental might just be a cleaning, but they won't know until they take a close look. It could be a bad tooth, causing pain, or one that is impacted and causing infection. My civvie, Mullet quit eating all of a sudden, and they found a broken tooth that had put a hole (infected) thru his tongue.

Oh my, poor Mullet! I had to look where you were from with a name like Mullet, Lol! We are in Florida, Tampa area. The vet said that maybe I should hold off also. Just waiting to hear more opinions. Thanks Carl.

Ok, I will. I never have before but I don't think it will be to hard as he pees with his butt pointing out the door. I will read the directions, but is there anything I should know.

It's pretty straightforward. Just follow the directions especially with regard to how long to wait (usually 15 sec.) before comparing to the color guide on the container.

Ok, thanks!

Hi Pam,

Tiki just recently came back from the falls too. I haven't found any reason for it either. "Just Cuz" seems to be the only reason I could find.

Good luck with everything!
