A little back story- Siami was diagnosed with diabetes on Labor Day this year- her reading was 571. Her vet sent us home with a script for Glipizide 2x a day with the parting words of see me in 3 weeks. I went home and of course tried to find all the information I could on feline diabetes. The first step was switching vets! I felt like he wasn't going to be one to help her. After "interviewing"several vets, I decided on one who I felt would give me the best treatment for her. He started her on ProZinc .o5 2x a day September 14th and put her on Hills Science prescription diet w/d @ 1/3 cup a day. She weighs 12Lbs and he wanted her down to 10 lbs ( she is a beautiful seal point Siamese). After her second curve he increased her to 1.5 ( on September 25th). I am happy to say October 15th 7pm was her last injection! She has been testing in the 80-124 range! Maybe she is just one of those kitties who can be diet controlled? Her vet is really excited for her! I'm excited for her! She is also on Zobaline 2x a day- could this give a false reading?

How wonderful she is doing so well. I would continue to watch her levels. 80-120 is on the high end of our remission range. Many cats normally run in the 50-80 range.

If you can switch her over to wet lower carb food, she may drop into even better levels. If you are feeding Science Diet dry, it is 40+% carbs. We suggest 8-10%. I am not sure about Science Diet wet but think it is a little high also. Have you shared this website by a vet with your vet? www.catinfo.org. She explains why wet is best and she has a good food chart with the carb counts.

The cat info website is great. I highly recommend it. I stumbled upon it right around the time Mancat was diagnosed and it helped me figured out which wet food was best for her. I checked it last week for the carb content on the food chart before I ran out to get more. It also has a lot of other good tips pertaining to health and hygiene, etc.
