Not sure if im in the right section, but i may need to go to a funeral for about 4 days, not sure when funeral is? Could be days, weeks or months away as one of my grandparents was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Is there anybody on here in my area that could come by and giver her shots twice aday? Id feel more comfy from someone on here that knows how to shoot and test. Im sure there is a service around here that will come by and do this ,but how am i suppose to believe they know how to do this? Bc thwey say thay can? If i go away and she dies it wouldnt be good for the person caring for her. Not even sure I could do anything about it if she dies while im gone. any help would be great. I live in pennsylvania

you may be able to have a vet tech come and check on her and test n shoot--we usually shoot a lower dose or a "babysitter" dose.
where in PA?

Southern pa,near md border. Ill check again but last time I asked my vet they didnt have anybody. Lower dose 4 days in a row safe? I def dont want another 3500.00 animal hospital visit.

I'd need to know more about your cat before making specific suggestions. Is she on Lantus? What is her current dose? Do you have a spreadsheet set up showing the BG readings you have gotten? Before suggesting a vacation dose, we'd want to look at recent patterns - when she nadirs, how low she's going on the current dose, etc.

In general, we do suggest a lower dose for a petsitter. If you can't find a vet tech to come to the house twice a day, check for a boarding facility in your area. Where I live (in CA) many vets will board cats, and then they can give insulin and do some testing (although most don't have overnight monitoring, so you'd still want to reduce the dose).

I board my cat at a pet hospital 3 hours away - the nearest one. It is rather expensive but they can do the testing, give the shots etc. and handle emergencies. They have 4 or 5 vets so I can get several points of view on her care if I want to - there is a team of two that are her primary vets.

It’s not perfect as they have no one overnight and Pretty Girl’s numbers are elevated when she’s there due to stress. There’s no vet in my small town that I feel would do a great job with her care and where I’m comfortable leaving her. Also I know no one IRL that knows much at all about cat diabetes, testing and giving shots.

Hope something here helps.

I cant board my cat,she wont eat, then she wont get her shot, thats not good. Had a petsitter come by today and she was hissing at her at first but came around better, not 100% but she will come around
