I am new to home testing. In fact I have only successfully once gotten blood from my diabetic cat. Oddly enough one of my older cats just sat perfectly still and let me take her blood sugar which was 91 as opposed to my diabetic kitty who the only test I got was 316. I have a hard time navigating the forum so if this is a repeat question please forgive me.

I am doing the ear test. I feel like I am pricking almost through the corner of the ear. Am I pressing too hard or is it OK? I don't want to keep sticking her and upsetting her but I feel like I am hurting her.

Thank you!

Ask all the questions that you need to ask. That's why we're here!

Here is a thread with lots of info on hometesting - videos that you how and where to poke, ideas for making it easier on the kitty and on you.

Do you have something behind the ear to poke against? Some people use a folded tissue; we liked a small make up sponge.

If you got blood, hurray! You are now an official member fo the vampire club. They do get used to it and eventually come when you get out the supplies, because they know there is a special treat involved.

I keep looking at all of the testing tips and I still keep wondering am I pushing too hard on her ear. Is there a way to know?

Well are you going right through the ear? Maybe put a finger behind it and you will find out ;)

Remember to go in at an angle.make sure the ear is warm. Are you using the lancet device or freehanding?

I am freehanding with the lancet. I have been putting one of those round cosmetic pads behind the ear. I think I am just uneasy with it but with practice I will be ok.

Cotton pads maybe arent firm enough. I need something hard to press against to help me get deep enough. I use a small flashlight.
