Home test question

I've recently had success with home testing and was wondering if it's a problem or hurts the cat's ears if you get the actual vein instead of the space outside that. Sometimes I think I'm actually getting the vein. Thanks.

I have hit the vein by accident (more than once) and it may be a little messier than hitting the sweet spot and Casey is fine (I do apply the neosporin + pain to her ear before each test). The first time it seemed to bother her, but I think she was reacting to my reaction more than anything because, beside her wanting to flick the moisture of her ear, she was content.

When this does happen, I first tell myself to stay calm (she feeds off my emotion)! I then proceed to get the reading, then take the cotton and hold the spot to stop the bleeding, give her praise & treats, and then moisten a clean cotton pad w/rubbing alcohol & wipe the area to make sure it is clean (of course followed by more praise & treats). Once that is all done, I find and clean-up any little droplets that may have scattered from her flick of the ear.

I dont know if I am hitting the vien or what but just day before yesterday, I tested and that ear bled worst that ever~~~ I felt sooo bad but was sooo happy of the 50 reading that my Sugar Bean never noticed, or she seemed not too. I made sure I held that spot a little longer to stop the bleeding and lots and lots of praise, love and an extra treat (to make mommy feel better for making her bleed so bad)~ Now that she is OTJ, we dont test that often and we both are a bit out of practice, but it dont take long for us each to remember~

Cats are pretty resilient so if they're not flinching or protesting, they're probably fine. Using a lancing device somehow hurts less than freelancing. Junior doesn't even react when I poke him now.
