I have a question regarding food for my newly diabetic diagnosed cat - She has irritable bowel problem and she has been on Holistic select feline food (we usually feed her half dry and half wet). Now with diabetes, I will stop the dry food but am not sure if I should switch her to the prescription diabetic canned food or just continue giving her the Holistic select canned food. I am copying the Holistic select canned food label information here hoping someone can let me know if it is suitable for diabetic cats. Thank you so much for your help!

Hi, welcome to FDMB!

There is no need for you to buy the expensive, so-called "prescription" cat food. In spite of what they try to tell you, it is not worth your money and it is not usually the best food for diabetic cats! Diabetic cats need a wet/canned food diet that is 10% or under in carbohydrates. A lot of us feed Fancy Feast Classic pates, Friskies, etc. Here is a link to a list of widely-available cat foods, including their carb content:

Hi, it looks like it should be fine. Just make sure there's no grain, potatoes, peas, tapioca or any other sources of starch-especially in the first five ingredients.
