Hmmmm....is Casey headed otj.

Casey hasn't had insulin for 13 days now. Her numbers climbed on 8/9 and 8/10 some. Not sure why. It's possible she ate some dog food, but I have never seen her do this. So, should I continue am and pm testing like I have been?

Who's to say what makes for a sudden spike? Maybe Casey saw a squirrel through the window; maybe she was just having a bad-mood kind of day ...
overall she's had some pretty good numbers there ... am I correct in assuming that she's pretty sensitive to micro-doses of insulin? (We have that problem at our house!:rolleyes:) I guess if Casey were my cat, I'd continue testing AM & PM for now, with a spot check here & there in the cycle sometimes, just like you've been doing. This may have simply been a blip, after all.:)

For your reference, these are the BG # ranges for "normal" that I'd copied from two difference source docs on FDMB (note there's a 10 pt. differential between the 2 sets; don't really know why that is...):

Off insulin: 40-120 mg/dL (56-168 mg/dL on AlphaTrak)
On insulin: 50-130 mg/dL (70-182 mg/dL on AlphaTrak)

50 - 130 mg/dL (2.8 - 7.2 mmol/L) {71-83 to 186-217 mg/dL for an AlphaTrak}
- On insulin - great control when following a tight regulation protocol.
- Off insulin - normal numbers. (May even go as low as the upper 30s (1.7 mmol/L){60s for an AlphaTrak}; if not on insulin, this can be safe.

P.S. Are you measuring her water consumption every 24 hrs, too? This is a good thing to keep recording, even after you're totally certain she's OTJ.

Yes, I would say that she is sensitive to the insulin. I gave her one drop before when she was in the upper 70's and she dropped to 61. I was home that dat and was able to monitor her. When she was at 177 yesterday I was afraid to shoot because I was going to be at work. I am glad I didn't because she dropped to 62 midday with no insulin.

I haven't measured her water usage. When she was drinking like a fiend I brought one of those large water dispensers. She definitely isn't drinking like she was... It's lasting a lot longer.

Thanks Robin. I'll continue to test like I was. I certainly don't feel we are out of the woods yet.

Ha, Terry! I know the feeling ... Just updated Bat-Bat's SS - check it out. :rolleyes: (Will need a new pair of "patience pants," soon - the current ones are getting kind of threadbare!!!;))

Forgot to tell you, re: avatar of Casey - She's so adorable! What big eyes you have, kitty ...

What beautiful numbers your Casey is creating.

I do have a question. When they are OTJ, do you still typically have higher numbers around pre-shot time and then it dips at nadir just as if you were on insulin? I thought that once OTJ and no longer diabetic, that the numbers typically float around between the 40-120 range but not necessarily doing the "smile" formation.

Thanks, Bat-Bat is also very cute. Looks like she is doing similar to Casey (he or she?) I am liking the lower numbers but it is nerve wracking.

When you are comparing sources, check the date they were posted or updated. Things do change as new research comes in.
