HIP SURGERY UPDATE Diane Tyler's Mom

Hi everyone I didn't know where to post this since Tyler is gone. I know I haven't been on the board for a long time . I do check in on your kitties though even though I don't write anything. I'm sorry.
I'm having my hip replacement surgery on Dec 12. Not looking forward to that lol
My darn back is still killing me too. My pain management Dr has given me 4 types of injections but they didn't help at all. I went to see a spine surgeon on Thursday.
He showed me where the problem was on the current MRI I had and said he wish he could do surgery on me but it didn't warrant surgery because it wasn't that bad even though I'm in a lot of pain.
He gave me a script for PT called the McKenzie Exercises. My PT is certified in it. I will start with her this Monday.
If after a few months it doesn't help I guess I'll just have to live with it.
Hopefully after the hip surgery my back might feel better ,I hope so.
Can't drive for 4-6 weeks. That is going to drive me crazy. My sister or her husband will take me to PT and any doctor appointments I will have. I'll need to use a walker for awhile. I'll hate that too lol
I'm really sorry I haven't been on the board, I have been just feeling very depressed at times thinking about my daughter Ashley and my Dad. I can't believe it's been 2 years and 6 months since Ashley passed, it still feels like yesterday. My Dad 2 years and 5 months since he passed, one month after Ashley.
I'll start PT a couple days after the surgery.
No laying around in bed.
I'll try my hardest to get through everything.
So I just wanted to let you all know what's been going on with me.
I miss all of you and love all your kitties,I hope you know that.
Wish me luck guys .
Please give your kitties lots of kisses for me , I'll try to pop on before the surgery and comment on your posts.
Lots of πŸ’• πŸ’• πŸ’• πŸ’• πŸ’• πŸ€— πŸ€— πŸ€—

Hi! I'm new to this, so didn't know you previously.
Sounds like you have lot on your plate. And I'm not sure if my motto will be helpful to you, but something that has helped me get through some rough times for things going on with myself is.... It can always be worse. And I know for me personally, it's true. Sure I have a lot that holds me back, but I try to think of others going to be harder times and think ... That could be me. I'm lucky there.πŸ˜… One year I had to have 2 surgeries within a 5mo time frame. I was complaining about it to my neighbor across the street, when he told me his wife had been through 13 separate surgeries! Was really hard to feel sorry for myself or be depressed after hearing that. Cause boy was she a trooper! Anyhow, that help me. Do you have any other animals? Not that getting one before surgery is a good idea, but I have to say, my cats and all their health problems really don't give me time to think about much else. If your don't have any and it's not too soon, maybe take a stroll through the local shelter to see if anyone reaches out to you?
I was wondering if the need for hip surgery was causing the back pain? But if nothing else even if not, hopefully it will alleviate some of it. So what did the doctor show you when he pointed out the problem?
Sorry you are gone through this all. And I hope it gets so much better for you soon. Is there any way to get a new doctor? Perhaps younger, that might see your case, the problem and pain you're in, and decide it's worthy of operating on? Did your doc now tell you surgery could fix it?

Hi Tylette
I have had back problems since I was in my 30's. I have had 3 MRI"s . I have a few bulging discs and a few degenerative discs which I knew already. He was the first Dr to show it to me on the disc .
The surgeon I saw was a young doctor 38 years old. He was highly recommended by my pain management doctor. I have had medial branch injections, radio frequency ablation, trigger point injections and sacroliliac injections.
I do trust what he said about not doing surgery.
He did say having the hip surgery could help my back pain some.
I would love to get another kitty down the road but I'm not financially able to do that .
I have had to put 5 kitties to sleep already and I just can't go through that again with another kitty if it starts to have health problems. I got Tyler into remission for over 3 years ,then he got small cell carsinoma.
His brother Perry wound up getting kidney disease which I did every thing for him.
At age 69 I really don't want to get another kitty.
My sister has 2 cats and I visit them all the time. My neighbor across the street has a kitty and I visit him all the time.
Maybe after my surgery and I'm back on my feet we have a shelter if you want to call it that , I will go and volunteer there, it's in my town . Thank you for reaching out to me
Wishing you and your kitty all the best πŸ€— πŸ€— πŸ€—

Hi Diane πŸ’•

So sorry you have been going through so much. Really hope the PT and the hip surgery help with the pain in your back. Grief is such a b&@ch, we never know when it’s going to strike and it can take us down so quickly. I lost both my parents within 2 years of each other very recently and I hate how the grief just slams me at times.

Sending you big hugs and tons of supportive thoughts πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ’•πŸ’•

Oh, Diane, thank you for this update. I've missed seeing you on the board and have often wondered how you were doing.

I hope the exercises and the PT visits will help your back. I've had great success with them treating two herniated discs in my neck.

I'm sorry to hear you've been going through difficult times dealing with the grief over the loss of your daughter and father. Grief is such a weird thing. You think it's getting better, and then all of the sudden you're mired in it again. My hope for you is that the intensity will eventually lessen and become a more peaceful experience for you. I don't think it ever leaves us, though.

I'll keep you in my thoughts as you plan to go for your hip surgery, and Jude, Hazel, John Lewis, Harper Lee, Zelda Lou and I send you ALL the vines πŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒand good luckπŸ€πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€!!

I look forward to hearing how everything is going with your progress.

Hi Carla ,I miss talking to you πŸ€—
The PT isn't doing much , but I've only gone about 6 times
I've had back problems since I've been in my 30's
But this pain is sometimes worse than the hip and groin pain. Hopefully I might get some back relief when I have the hip surgery
Thanks for the well wishes. πŸ€— πŸ€— ❀️

I hope you're doing well. I hope the weeks go fast also after the surgery so I can drive myself. Not driving is the one thing that I can't stand . Thank God my sister and her husband will be there for me to taxi me to physical therapy and doctor appointments lol. I hope you're lots of fun with that cutie pie Juliet 😊

UPDATE HIP SURGERY
Hi all my friends, I miss all of you and your kitties. Well surgery was last Friday and I came home Saturday.
Have to wear those compression socks for 4 weeks ! Dr said I could shower but I really don't feel stable enough to take one. I did buy the chair that you put in the tub.
I bought those bath sponges you wet and they lather up so I'm using them .
When I feel comfortable enough to take a shower I'll have my sister come here.

They gave me Percocet , celebrex, acetaminophen 500 mgs to take every 8 hours. Senocot, I also have miralax and bought prunes. Thank God I finally went on day 4 and have been going almost every day.

Here we are talking about πŸ’© again lol
I've been doing my exercises faithfully every day and walking around every hour and a half.
I have the seat riser that you put on the toilet bowl seat also.
My first check up with my Dr is Jan 13 and then again in March.

Using the walker of course.
When the anesthesiologist told me what he was going to use to put me out with , he must have named 9 meds. I looked at my sister and said is he trying to kill me πŸ˜‚ lol
Surgery was 2-1/2 hours.
One thing I'm not complaining about is that my back feels great!! If you remember I had back problems for ever, bulging discs, osteoarthritis, some degenerative discs. Had every injection my pain management gave me. All the doctors told me hopefully after your hip surgery that might help your back. Well it did. Knock On Wood it continues. I'm praying it does.
Well just wanted to check in and hopefully soon I can check in on all your kitties. I miss them all. Love all of you πŸ€— πŸ€— πŸ€— ❀️

Hi Diane!!

Poop poop, hooray!!!πŸ’©πŸ’©πŸ™Œ

So glad to hear from you and get this update. I'm especially glad to hear that your back is feeling better, and I hope that continues as you heal. People I've talked to that have had replacement surgery all tell me that getting moving is the key to getting better, and it sounds like you are following the doctor's orders in that regard. I hope you're able to resume all normal activities soon.

In the meantime, drop in as often as you can and keep us updated (and keep us straight!). We miss you!

Jude and my furry crew all send head butts πŸˆπŸˆπŸˆβ€β¬›πŸˆβ€β¬›πŸˆβ€β¬› 🩷 and we all send healing vines! πŸŒΏπŸƒπŸŒΏπŸƒπŸŒΏπŸƒπŸŒΏπŸƒπŸŒΏ

Sounds like there will be some downtime for you, but I am glad to hear that your back is doing better!
Rest well and get better soon!
Sending you all the healing vines I could master here! :D

I'm so sorry to hear about Tyler and your father and sister's passing, and your pain:( I haven't been on for a long while but I wanted to tell you how much I always appreciated your excellent advice when we were in the thick of it so many times. You are so appreciatedπŸ₯°and loved. I'll be praying for you - for your hips and back and your heart. I hope this surgery is going to make a big positive difference -- I have a friend in his 70s who just had the same surgery after years of avoiding it - and he almost immediately sprang back from it, feeling 1000x better! I hope and pray that will be your experience too. Also - I'm sure you're overloaded with advice from everywhere - but regarding the relentless back pain -- you should read The Magnesium Miracle - and get yourself some picometer magnesium like this one. It's supposed to be an excellent protocol for traumatic injury (including long-running serious back problems). My Auntie has some serious back problems and is getting some relief from this protocol. It's worth a shot! Love you! - Holly and Sunny Bear too (he's sending some serious soft chubby cuddles and motorboat purrs your way) πŸ₯°πŸ±β€οΈ

I'm so sorry to hear about Tyler and your father and sister's passing,
Hi Holly it wasn't my sister who passed it was my 37 year old daughter. 😭
My back feels 100% better since having the hip surgery. I've had back problems since I was in my 30's. Right before my hip surgery my pain management Dr gave me medial branch injections, radio frequency ablation, trigger point injections and sacroliliac injections
None worked. 3 of my doctors said hopefully after the hip surgery your back will improve. Well it did. I can't believe it. Hopefully it stays that way. I'll look into what you said but will check with my cardiologist , I have A-Fib and check with my kidney doctor, I have high potassium. I drink what's called SPS solution ( Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate ) 1 ounce a day, been drinking it for years and my potassium has been in the normal range . Thank you for your kind words πŸ€— πŸ€—

Sorry! I'm way behind and have the wrong info! But I'm sooo glad to hear that things have improved so much since the surgery! That is amazing news, and just what I wanted to hear. I'm so sorry about your daughter - that is a complete heartbreaker. I cannot imagine. But you will see her again one day - and your Dad and Tyler too - and it will be a sweet reunion. ❀️

Diane! It is so good to hear an update, been thinking about you. That would be such great news for you if the hip surgery helped all the back pain. Fingers crossed on that one. Rest up and keep pounding those prunes, pain meds can be rough in that department

Hi Diane, must feel good to have that surgery behind you, so you can focus on healing and feeling better β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

Happy to read you’re able to move around a bit. Sending hugs and healing thoughts your way for a quick and successful recovery.

Great to get this update, Diane! πŸ₯°πŸ˜„ So thrilled to hear the surgery went well and that recovery is going the same. You must be an A+ patient doing all the necessary exercises and sticking with it... all the better for the future! And it sounds like you're already seeing improvements with your back, which is incredible. Hope all continues down a smooth path and then we can have you popping in here more!! :bighug:
