Hills z/d Skin & Food Sensitivities & Diabetes Question

Doodles was given Hill's z/d Skin & Food Sensitivities wet & dry. The vet believes his naked belly (over grooming) is from some sort of sensitivity. I am currently feeding him 4T dry mixed with 1/4 can wet.

He was previously eating 9Lives Indoor Cat dry and canned food.

He has also been diagnosed with diabetes & we are treating.

I looked up the info for Hill's z/d from a link on the main page.
Can 5.5oz
Protein: 28 %kcal
Fat: 37 %kcal
Carbs: 34 %kcal
Fiber: 0.4 g/100 kcal
Phosph: 155 mg/100 kcal
Calories per can: 169

Question: given the diabetes diagnosis, should I stick to can and drop the dry?
Question: How much do I feed a 13.5 lb male cat?

Squeaker was put on the d/d formula the duck variety is a little lower in carbs than the z/d you are currently using. Cats should ideally eat wet food that has under 10% carbs. I would cut out the dry completely and consider changing to d/d duck flavor. Squeaker was scratching himself raw. His IM suggested the d/d so I put him on it. After about 6 months he wouldn't eat it anymore, so I put him on Weruva and he never had another allergy type issue. Sometimes if you take a break from a suspected allergen you can then search out other options that will work.

There are a few questions I have.
What brand/flavor of food were you feeding before?
What type insulin/dose are you using?

dry is generally a bad idea for diabetic kitties, as its so high in carbs. many people argue its not good even for non-diabetics but thats another story.

if you drop the dry, make sure you monitor blood glucose, as it is possible doodles would need a decrease in insulin to accommodate lower glucose levels as a result of low carbs.

as far as allergies go, my cat would get itchy and lose the fur on his ears when he ate chicken. we began avoiding chicken years ago and no problems since.

some folks say the raw diet is the way to go for skin allergies. that can require a bit of a commitment on part of the furparent, but it doesnt hurt to think about it and research.

Glad you made me double check...

Purine Cat Chow Indoor (dry, green bag) & Friskies Classic Pate (wet, variety of flavors, but majority was a fish/seafood flavor)

All our cats used to graze.

They now eat when Doodles does, 7 am/7pm.
