Does anyone feed their cat The Hill’s Science Diet A/D food? This is obviously not my first choice, as the carbs are at about 12%; however, after a visit to the vet she recommended this for a few days. She said it will get Gracie back in the swing of eating again.
 
Most cats like AD. I’ve used it temporarily to help kitties that have been ill or off their feed. It’s one of the best for syringe feeding because it’s so smooth. Hope it helps Gracie
 
I found a great website from Young Again listing all the prescription food contents of not just Young Again but Hills, Royal Canin etc. They even include Whiskas and Meow Mix but not Fancy Feast. Although it's a Young Again site they seem to treat other brands fairly, that's for you to judge.
It's a PDF page so you can save the file and print it but the color coding matters, we're using a B&W laser printer so the site is nearly useless to us without a large display.

"The Young Again Philosophy is that digestible carbs in excess of 5% should not be fed to obligate carnivores like your cat". "Ingredients in red are plant products that we believe should not be fed to cats". They are quite adamant about that.

How this applies to this thread. The first set of figures is an incomplete listing of Hill’s Science Diet A/D food. The second set is Royal Canin SO meant for urinary tract problems. Marco and Lewis are particularly prone to UTI and when we started feeding them this food the UTI problems stopped altogether. All three of my vets say it's fine as an addition to the other foods we feed the boys. I should be clear we no longer have a diabetic cat in the home and still mix FF in with other foods, otherwise they just walk away.

When ever I have a sick cat that does not want to eat, I get a can of A/D. They love it and most of the time they will eat.
When a cat is sick feed them anything you can get them to eat.
 
@Noah & me (GA) You have a laser printer?!? This is actually something I want to invest in. I print so many things. Half of the time I have them sent to print store, otherwise I go through ink and paper ridiculously fast. They use a laser printer, and many it comes out much nicer and "smooth" (if that even makes sense).

Ok, back to the subject at hand. You can mix FF with their regular food and they eat it? If I do that . . . Gracie won't touch it. She won't even eat the food at the bottom of the dish. She sticks her nose up real high.

Carbs are seriously the devil. Royal Canin is supposed to be the kitty food God of cat food. Well, Hill's Science Diet...I dislike the company. Even though I supported their business for years! In a perfect world, I would make Gracie's food from scratch. Although, in a perfect world I would have someone make my food too. ;)
 
It may be a myth that cats won't eat what they can't smell but I find the stinkier the better. They'll walk away from the good stuff but if I mix in some FF it's gone in minutes. Many cat food companies switch owners and management over the years. IAMS used to be an upper middle class food but now I won't touch it.

Our printer. I can by cheap inkjet printers at the market for barely more than the cost of a new cartridge. How many of those crap out and end up in the landfill? I've also done the "fill it yourself" thing but the ink never dries, ever! You can smudge it a year later. I also don't need or want a cheap scanner built in. I have dozens of old family photo albums and I used to shoot 35mm so if you want good scans go buy an Epson scanner. Photos scanned properly and printed the right way will last for decades.
Our Samsung laser printer is barely bigger than a toaster without the tray pulled out, $99 at Best Buy. I've only replaced the cartridge once in four years.
I also used to take everything to UPS to be printed, Staples won't do it unless you e-mail the images in, idiots. The last time I stood there with a lost cat copy they just wouldn't do it.

Cat's can be such brats. I have never owned a dog, but growing up I did and many of my friends have dogs. I have never heard of dogs doing a food protest, or having to bribe their canine to eat.
I used to think Hill's was the best stuff out there. When I first started buying it I thought Gracie was being spoiled.
My neighbor seems to think that all dry kibble (cat food in general) is made by essentially only 2 or 3 suppliers. They just slap a different label (brand) on the food to make it look like it comes to another company.

Printers: I didn't realize the laser printers were that "reasonable". I'm not saying I could go buy one right this instant, but it is definitely something I can work with.
How often/much do you print? Once in four years is incredible. I'm on my 4th ink cartilage since January. It adds up fast.

UPS is generally where I go, or to FedEx office. It can get expensive though. My lecture slides from school are roughly between 60-80 pages long.
I can print at school for about the same price as UPS or FedEx. Then I told myself I wasn't going to print the slides and just write everything. Nope, that doesn't work. Easier than it sounds.

Dinner tonight. Nothing fancy. Butternut squash ravioli. You definitely have me beat! haha.
