Higher #'s after slight dosage increase

While I wait for some help with my spreadsheet, can someone help me on this question please?
Back in February, we started insulin .5 dose and the numbers were coming in not too bad for 3 weeks averaging 175 or so with the occasional jump up. Then they jumped up double and my vet suggested trying 1 unit dose. The numbers are pretty high ie averaging about 250 I'd say.
Today, doing a curve, the numbers are really high averaging almost 300.
Does anyone know what could be going on there? Any input is so much appreciated. Thank you!

What insulin are you using? Is there any possibility of another health issue going on recently? What food are you feeding, and has that changed?

I'll wait for the spreadsheet before offering a real opinion, but there's a general phenomenon called "bouncing" that is probably playing at least some role. When insulin takes a cat's blood glucose "too low" (as far as the cat's body is concerned; they get used to the diabetic numbers), sometimes their liver reacts by dumping a bunch of extra glucose into the blood. In some cases when this happens, you could see as many as three days of high numbers after a single low point! I don't know if that's what's happening in this case, but I just wanted to mention it as an example of how a larger insulin dose can actually result in (apparently) higher blood glucose.

I am using Lantus. I don't believe there's another health issue. Feeding mostly FF pate, a bit of Friskies flaked tuna and she refuses Nature Instinct now. I wish I could include the spreadsheet, but I'm stuck at it and am waiting for the guru's help. Thanks Amber.

Should I consider going back to .5??? Will see the vet Monday.

I wouldn't recommend a decrease without seeing more data on the numbers you have been getting. Reading your initial message, there was a jump in numbers even before you moved to 1.0U, right? So it's not just the increased insulin that started this off. It still might be a too-much-insulin issue, with the change in food. I think the Nature's Variety canned should be pretty low in carbs, but if you were feeding the dry before and now she's turning up her nose at it in favor of the low-carb canned, the change in food could have decreased her insulin needs. At this point, though, it's equally likely that she actually needs more insulin as less...

Glad you are going to see the vet to get things checked out. It may be that there is some underlying health issue that you can't see-- a minor infection or (really common) dental issues-- causing the increase in numbers. Or, honestly, it could just be part of the frustration and weirdness of dealing with feline diabetes! Sometimes things just seem to make no sense Hopefully, in this case, the picture will become clearer soon!

Mornings were always in high 300's with the .5, it was the evening that came down lots. Yes, there was a jump, that's why the vet recommended trying 1.
Have not been feeding dry in years, that's how I got my original honeymoon. Thanks, as soon as I get the spreadsheet fixed, I will post it. I'll do anything to help her.
