Higher Dose, Bouncing?

I gave Catee a higher dose last night PM of 2.25 he went down to 88 and then back up to 390. So this happened before on 12/23 and this is when I tried to switch food.

Should I consider this bouncing and keep giving him the same dosage? I know it will take 3 cycles for the bouncing to stop. He did eat some food about 30 minutes or so before BG test.

Again, I know I am posting alot and I appreciate everyone's patience.

That was a great nadir. I think sticking with the dose is the way to go.
The high pre-shots may be more a function of the dry food's carb load.
 
We generally recommend you pick up the food 2 hours before shot time. That way, your pre-shot test isn't food-influenced.
 
Thanks for tell me that! I've never read that before. That very well may being helping to make it go up because he always eats before the shot.
 
You are not posting too much! We should have gotten the info to you about not feeding before the shot. I agree with BJ. Nice nadir, safe number. Wish he wouldn't bounce back up to the higher preshots, but once he hasn't eaten before the test, those may be lower.
 
Yes, definitely plays a part. At +8 BG 92, PMPS 301. He had ate another ounce of food. I will have to figure out how to feed him while I am at work.

Should I only feed him after his shot? and give him so long to eat and take it up?
 
Typically, we test, feed, and shoot ProZinc in about 14 minutes.
We find using a timed feeder, such as the Pet Safe 5m, works well to space out the food and help match the insulin effects when the cat otherwise scarfs it all down right away.
You might try splitting the food into 2 or 3 mini-meals that are dispensed at shot time, +3 and +5 or maybe shot time and +4.
Another option is to freeze part of the food and as it thaws, it may be nibbled.
For my Gracie, I just let her nibble as she wants. I leave enough down, so that if she heads a bit low when I'm not home, she can eat as needed.
 
Well, Catee's BG went down to 58 +6 last night. 88 on Alpha Trak. I gave him 3 high carb treats as I was worried.

This morning 315 AMPS. I kept the food from him two hours before the shot and it did not seem to help. Just don't know what to do...I will continue to work on his meals. I just feel bad for him that it won't even out.

He has went down to 11 lbs from 14 lbs, hair has ridges, and just does not feel well. Really do hate it for him.
 
I'd stick with the 2 units for a good 3 shots; the bouncing may calm down a bit.

I read once on the forum that "cats bounce until they quit bouncing". Other people call it liver training. That low is a really big drop for him. BJ mentioned automatic feeders. I got my PetSafe5 at PetSmart. It's pricy but my cats have never been able to break into it, unlike other feeders. And you can set it for 5 feeding times. So you could divide the day's food into 5 parts and it will open every 2 hours or so. Then you have it go to an empty section 2 hours before the test. If he eats midcycle and in small amounts, that could even out the cycle, maybe keeping those nadirs a little higher.

You can try doing that by leaving food out, if he is the only cat and he isn't a scarfer who would eat it all at once.

I talked to the Vet today. He wants me to give 2.25 evening, 2.00 morning and see if that works. He said that may keep him from going so low and for me to continue working with his feeding schedule.

I will look into the feeder. He ate 2 ozs this morning and just ate a little bit a while ago. I had a hard time giving him the shot this evening. 1 hour late. He really did pitch one. PMPS 296.
