Frankie has only eaten about half a pouch today and is not asking for food. His sugar was low this morning at 4.8 (88), so I stalled for half an hour and he was at 5 (90). I was going to shoot that number but then he barely touched his breakfasts so I didn't. I tested at +8 and he was 29. 8 (536). I have stopped offering him food so that he might feel a bit hungry in a couple of hours for his next shot. What happens if he doesn't eat his dinner but his blood sugar is still high? Do I shoot?

The only thing about getting an earlier test is seeing if he's dropping fast. If he is, then you can give him a little snack to try to slow down the drop. Those fast drops can also cause bounces.

I'm glad you gave insulin tonight. Whenever vets are putting a cat under anesthesia, they typically say that a half dose is fine, when the cat is not eating before an operation. Not all of the insulin given goes to balance out the food eaten.

Yes, I'd forgotten that. So next time (anti jinx) I should give him a half dose safely? Makes sense. Ok. I will test him at +2 and see where we are. What is classes as a fast drop? 100 points in 2 hours or more?

A fast drop depends on the cat. I see Frankie's done about 50 points of an hour without a big bounce, so maybe something more than that.
