After a rapid increase to 524 at the end of the last cycle, Cassis has a high nadir of 448 at 6 hours after a dose of 2.75, much less of a drop than we have seen. Can't explain the result. Should we give more insulin at this point or wait until his next cycle in 6 hours at which point he will be very high?

Gave no more. Level stayed about the same all night. Not sure what happened. Will check again at same dose.

Glad you waited. Sometimes a number is just that - just one number, just one cycle. I call it the "oh, look. A squirrel !" phenomena. . Who knows - a soft bm or a hard one or seeing something scary.

Wait until you see a pattern. Giving a dose in the middle of a cycle can mess you up for several cycles, trying to get the shots back on track. And adding insulin to a cycle where there could already be some is never a good idea. The most important adage here is "better high for a cycle than low for a minute"

Thanks. We gave him a Zobaline (B12/folate) tablet last night for the first time. We later read on Tanya's site that the 3-mg dose is 3 times higher than what is recommended for CKD cats. Don't know if that had anything to do with his level being high, but we will certainly back off that dose.
