Hi all. I have had Jasmine on lantus for 2 days at 1 unit twice a day. Her first blood reading was 14.1 mmol (253.80) before her first lantus injection and then 11.2 mmol (201.6) Today we are on day #2 of lantus and her number this morning was 15.6 mmol (280.8) and tonight 20.9 mmol (376.2) Does anybody know why her numbers are sky rocketing so bad? Is this normal until she gets used to the new insulin? Thank you!!!!!!!

Welcome back Jodi.

Having numbers that are somewhat erratic is not unexpected at the beginning of Lantus use. It takes about 5 - 7 days for numbers to settle down since Lantus needs to build up in Jasmine's system before it is fully available to do it's work.

I wonder if you've had a chance to read the New to Lantus sticky? There is information in that note, as well as all of the other stickies at the top of the Board that will help to get you oriented to the group. In particular, it will be very helpful to go to the Tech Forum and get a spreadsheet and profile set up and linked to your signature. Once you start accumulating more test data, it will be very hard to keep track of information if it's not all in one place.

Hi Sienne, thanks for the info. Today is day #3 on lantus for Jasmine and her readings are 15.1 mmol/271.8 and 19.2 mmol/345.6. Her numbers were much lower on caninsulin prior to starting lantus. I just am a bit concerned with the numbers shooting up like that. I will re-read the "new to lantus" sticky.

Hi welcome to lantus land! Just wanted to say hi! I am a newbie here (1month) and it is very normal for the numbers to bounce! I am no expert but just thought I would come by and offer my support and let you know you are in the right place!!!

it does take a little while for the Lantus to settle in. Was her Caninsulin dose also 1 unit? If you can start a spreadsheet that will help a lot, put her caninsulin numbers in there too and then make a note of when she started Lantus.
