Gus had a dental on Thursday in which the last of his 6 teeth were removed (which made me sad, but it had to be done). His blood glucose has been elevated since then. He has had two previous dentals that required extractions.
We are with a new cat only vet and they put Gus on a fentanyl patch - which is coming off tomorrow (Tuesday). He is eating, purring, pooping/urinating.
His blood sugar was over 600 when he came home last Thursday night. Ug! I almost had a heart attack, but of course this is understandable as he only got half a unit of Lantus that morning and he underwent a major surgery. It has been in the low 400s and high 300s since the surgery. I don't remember what happened with his blood sugar after the last dental because it was a couple years ago.
Did anyone else experience elevated blood glucose for a while after surgery? If so, when did you notice it starting to go down?
The vet doesn't seem concerned at this moment about the glucose levels because she said this was a very stressful procedure for him, but in the long run he will feel better. He was also given an antibiotic shot that day.
