ok, so we were successful this morning on our amps :) broke down and used a little tuna, went for the main vein, and got it. :-D larry is at 457, after having only 1U of N last night (as i was unable to get a reading).
thoughts on whether i should give 2U of N this morning? thanks

ok! i feel pretty good knowing that evn on just 1U, he is at 457. all in all that seems good to me. i am by far no expert, but i know it could be a lot higher on so small of a dosage (for him).
i know tuna is bad, b4 any1 yells at me haha
but the chicken was losing effect. he was no longer enthused and we needed to get this done. if needed, can we use a few bites of tuna a day? for at least 2 of his tests? even for awhile til we get better? or absolutely not?
the test didnt seem to hurt and we got plenty of blood. used the biggest lancet i have of a 26 and went for the vein.

The tuna is fine - packed in water is best. Were you able to hold his ear for a few seconds and/or use neosporin? It is fine to hit the vein as you are struggling to get blood, but it may leave a scab or mark on his ear. Just be aware.

i put a little neo pain relief ointment on b4 so i can see better. makes the ear shiny and the blood bead. then i kept the rice sock on the ear. he let me! and i prob. didnt hit the vein bc there was no big gusher, just a big drop of blood! hallelujah! but hitting that tiny millimeter or so we r supposed to aim for has just been near impossible for me, so i went closer to the vein. then i held it for a min. with a tissue, more blood was there. it seems ok now tho. larry does not like staunching!

That all sounds great. It's all about figuring out what works for you and Larry. Hitting next to the vein is fine. Keep the tuna coming, successful test for not. (although I hope we are on a roll)

yes, all 7 creatures in the house r willing to dance and sing for tuna! :-D i thot i couldnt use it but was determined to make it work today w/e it took.
sue, i have a question. is there a reason i want 5+ as opposed to 6+ or 8+ ? curious, trying to learn and understand.
ur a saint, sue! without u, where would we be?

Well, his nadir (lowest point) has been all over the place with the limited data you have so far. It was at the tail end of the cycle ( 8ish)when he was getting that bigger dose that looked like too much. I am thinking it may be earlier (more at a normal time for N)now the dose is lower. You are welcome to get another test later if you want  the more data the better.

I wish there were more peole who would advise on N. As I have told you before, I have never used it - just helped others using it.

ok thanks for helping me understand.
yes, we had another person giving feedback who used it, or had used it? i forget who it was. idk where they went.
having looked at another cats SS who was on N, i feel blessed with larrys numbers so far. the other cat was ranging from 30s to 600s on the N. thank God the info i do have is better than those numbers! maybe this N is going to work for him :)

Humulin (and Novolin) Primer

I used some Humulin N as a supplement when attempting to regulate Spitzer.

edit to add: earlier posters on the message board may have been more likely to have NPH type insulins prescribed, as that was before Lantus or Levemir were well known and it was somewhat standard, in addition to Vetsulin/Caninsulin.
