We are Peggy and Mickey. Have been on Prozinc site since June with no movement out of the 300's.
I have levemir now. He has not had insulin since yesterday. He is now at 341.
I plan on giving him isulin shortly. My work schedule is not very good. I do rotating 8 hr swing shifts. So day, 6a-2p for 5 days with one day off, then 2p-10p for 5 days with one day off until nights 10p-6a, so shot times are not set. My shooters have resigned they have been bitten and scratched too much, Mickey whom I love, is a very nasty cat. Just likes me sometimes, and not much,so fractious? Definately.
Going to make a new spread sheet.
Just wanted to pop in and introduce ourselves.

Hi Peggy. Tom and I have been on Lev a little over a month now and I am very very happy with it. After a year on pz landing us in the 600+ #'s.
I thought I could get away with some pzi like shooting here...it is a very different game plan. I felt a lot freer give or take an hour or 2 with the pz. But you can only do what you can do. I hope I can be of support and help to you on this leg of your journey.
I will say I had an immediate change with Tom's #'s.
Levemer lasts a long time. Initially your curve may not curve up at all but linger.
You can look at my SS
and then at the bottom of the page is the PZI SS you can link to.
Amazing change in Tom
Good Luck.

Welcome, Peggy & Mickey,
I think you're going to like lev. If you haven't done so already, I highly recommend reading the stickies that are posted here and on Lantus. They have a lot of great information, especially on when to raise and reduce doses.
Wishing you and Mickey a smooth transition and movement on Lev.

Hi Peggy,

Welcome to the Lev board!

I think you may find some help from Vicky who changes her work schedule every so often and so is also often changing her shooting schedule. She does this with split dosing that she swears is an easy concept to understand, however my mind has not evolved enough to grasp it, so I will leave it to her to explain.

In any case, do you have a starting dose in mind? Generally we suggest between .5u and 1u to start, hold the dose for a minimum of 3 days or 6 cycles to let it settle and then curve to see what's what...unless of course you get numbers dangerously low, and then you adjust dose immediately.

Are you the same Peggy and Mickey that built a small cat enclosure from a shed when you moved to your fathers house? Or are you a different Peggy? :?

Any which Peggy you are, WELCOME! :-D

Hi Peggy. You only have 1 day off every 5 days? That's an intense work schedule. And unfortunately, you are going to have to keep him on a 12/12 schedule then on your day off move him later so he can be on a new 12/12 schedule. I take it that you work too far away to come home to give a shot over a lunch/dinner break? I think moving the shot time later with split doses will be safer than trying to move him earlier. Just looking at the schedule you posted, I was thinking 5am/5pm, then move to 11am/11pm, then move to 7pm/7am - that assumes you can shot 1 hr before/after your work schedule. Then you have to move the shot sooner to 5am/5pm again. That last move could be 11 hour cycles and a slight dose decrease.

I would suggest starting at .5u because you are shooting right before going to work and I am assuming no one is willing to test him either. You just need to go slow so you aren't risking a low when you are not home. Some of us have had quite significant responses to lev in the first few cycles. (see Beau's SS for an example).

Thank you all!
Melissa, I am the Peggy with the cat enclosure.

We are starting with 0.5u
I do not have anyone to test him at this time. But will be intouch with my vet tech to see what she can do. The only way I can leave the desk is if someone working at the time is certified to sit for me. Liability issues.

Peggy, I will have to put some thought in to trying to help you with this type of shot schedule. Thank you for outlining how your shifts rotate.

I will get back to you later today.
