Hi there,

Apologies I am not much of a regular but life is truly hectic around here!!

Harry has been throwing out some interesting results recently and I would appreciate any eyes on the numbers just to maybe pick up anything I might have missed.

You will see there are some days without tests now as my job has upped the pace a bit which is unfortunate :( I just have to go steady on the preshot number if I am not going to be around.

This is our first dose reduction as before he has been so bouncy it's not been worth it. However he has put on weight so I have cut his food a bit hence the reducie (I think his numbers are dropping because of less food).

Any of your sound advice gratefully recieved :)

Harry may be bouncy but he's now throwing numbers in the 30s at you. It's not safe to hold the dose when you see a number below 40. How about reducing Harry's dose to 1.75u tonight?

Reducing the dose:

If kitty drops below 40 (long term diabetic) or 50 (newly diagnosed diabetic) reduce the dose by 0.25 unit. If kitty has a history of not holding reductions well or if reductions are close together... sneak the dose down by shaving the dose rather than reducing by a full quarter unit. Alternatively, at each newly reduced dose... try to make sure kitty maintains numbers in the normal range for seven days before reducing the dose further.
Given that Harry has dropped into the 30s twice and your work schedule, it's really important for you to reduce. Most cats will bounce when they drop that low.

Thanks Sienne, advice appreciated as always :)

He has been above 200 all day and still is tonight at bedtime.

I am also watching the type of food (as he is fussy on the same thing for any period of time) there are some that are definitely keeping his numbers higher so I have to watch my rotations now with the doses. I missed your message for tonights dose but will lower things tomorrow - cheers.

THanks again

Jax

I agree with Sienne. Please reduce the dose as soon as possible, and I hope you can get a test in tonight, too.

With the less food, he may need less insulin and you don't want him going into the 30s and having nothing in his bowl to bring himself back up, while you're sleeping or at work.

Good luck with the new dose.

Be Safe.
