Hi! Forgive me while i learn the forum protocols.

My kitty, Bubby, was diagnosed a few days ago. I am overwhelmed, to say the least. So, many decisions to make so fast. I was given the option of bexacat, senvelgo or insulin. Bc his blood sugar was 425 today, and the 2 oral meds would take 4 or 5 days to get here, she wants me to do insulin. I honestly would rather try the oral meds first before the insulin since you only get one shot at them but we settled on lantus. Name brand is insanely expensive. I was wondering if the bioanalogs are acceptable? I need to pick it up in the morning to get treatment started and I don't want to harm my cat with a generic med if they are not OK. The pharmacist has no clue but suspects it's fine.

Hi and welcome
I am glad you are going the insulin way. Much better.
Yes you can use the generic brands of Lantus.
I don’t live in the US so I’ll tag @Diane Tyler's Mom. She will tell you what and where to buy it.

Here is a link to information for new members.
I would think about hometesting the blood glucose. It is the best way to keep your kitty safe.

Also you need to be feeding a low carb wet food. Don’t buy the prescription food from the vet.It is nothing special, cost more and is usually high carb food. Look for canned food that is 10% or under carbs

Look for post #4. The post numbers are to the right of each post, you will see all the information there
Almost all members use the generic lantus

Also read post #6 there also it's all about testing your kitties BG and what meter to use
Pet meter strips are way to expensive, plus our numbers are based on human meters anyway.

Hi! Thank you all for the info. I am too overwhelmed to deal in the moment. I'm headed to the pharmacy to get the insulin for Bubby's first dose and I realized the syringes I bought at Walmart, though the correct syringes are a different gauge and length. Are 31 gauge 6mm syringes ok? The vet needles were 30 gauge 3mm.

If this is what you got it’s fine,

these are the ones I always used.

the gauge is the size of the needle point and the 6mm is the length. Both are a matter of preference.

Thanks! Yes, this is the needle. They are so much less expensive. But they have 10 lines rather than 5 lines between the 5-unit increments.
It’s best to have 1/2 unit marked and these are the best priced ones I found. We do dose adjustments here by 1/4 units so those really help!
