Hi, I'm new here and my cat just had a seizure...

Please go to an ER vet NOW!! A seizure is usually quite obvious and this isn't anything we can help you with. If someone can drive you, take honey with you and rub it on his gums along the way. It can also be administered over the anal region or syringed into the rectum if you can't get any into his mouth. Please go NOW!

I'm trying to post but I keep getting an error, I did rub syrup on her gums and we drove straight to the ER...she spent the night with fluids and testing and the next day we drove her from the ER to her regular vet to continue treatment and tests. She is home now eating if I hold the dish for her, licking water off my fingers and peeing ok
I had more info but I get an error if I write too much....

She is a little bruised on her hind legs where they had the iv's and still acts a little confused....I guess this isn't the right forum for this but I wanted to know what I can do to help her heal and get back to normal...they reduced her insulin from 2 units twice daily to one unit once a day

Is your cat ok? Are you home testing?
She is home and the vet said she should be fine, I just want to make her as comfy as possible

No we do not home test, she goes in every few weeks to test...maybe we need to start doing it at home. She was fine for 3 years until a month ago when they doubled her dose. I now see this was probably a mistake

Ok so your cat is stormy home now? What were you dosing? What insulin? What food? What are you changing the dose to? Are you home testing? If not your job today is to get a meter and start. We will help you... It's really important.

We use prozinc, she was getting 2 units twice a day now one unit once a day she eats fancy feast pate and royal canin SO.

What is the best forum to take this to? I would like to start home testing and get the right equipment for the job...
The main health forum is best for general questions or emergencies because it gets more traffic. The ProZinc forum is best for insulin specific advice. You can post on "Suggestions, Tech Sopoert " about your error messages when you try to post.

I think everyone here would tell you that testing at home is the best way to keep your kitty safe.

Great. You can get a pet meter such as the Alphatrak or human meter such as the relion micro or confirm. Human meters run lower than pet meters so the numbers would be different from the vet but would still tell you if she's high or low. Alphatrak is what your vet most likely uses but the strips are expensive at about a dollar each. Whichever way you go is up to you.

So glad she's ok! I agree with Kris and Janet, Home testing is the only way to keep her safe. Go to the main health forum and we'll help you learn all you need to know. And welcome!

Glad to hear you got her to ER and she's ok now. Sounds like she had a hypo event with the increased dosage. Home testing will help you catch this before it happens again :bighug:. Ideally, she would still need insulin twice a day, since none last 24 hours but hold off until you start home testing. See you on the Prozinc forum!

Your posts seem to be coming thru okay. Good job on caring enough to go to emergency, we've seen a few that can't figure that out. YES, start posting in FEKINE HEALTH and you'll save precious time. There is always someone here.

@Bunster how's your kitty this AM?
Early this morning she used the litterbox in our bathroom, even though she had one next to her bed, then she climbed up and snuggled with me in bed. She ate half a can of fancy feast that i mixed with water, she licks more than she gobbles. I still can't get her to drink water, even though she acts like she wants too. She's still a little disoriented but improved.

Glad she's better. Try mixing a little water in with her food.
Yes, that works and this morning she came running to the kitchen for her favorite food, then looked at the water bowl but still didn't drink. I'm not sure exactly what is going on but she is improving. We go back to the vet this afternoon for a recheck so hopefully he can help. I am making sure she gets water with an eye dropper and putting it in her food but would prefer she drink! :). Also I saw the word somogyi on her report so I started reading about it and now I have a headache!

I wonder if a water fountain would entice her to drink. Some cats prefer moving water.
