I'm Kat from New Orleans and my 10 year old cat Miles has just been recently diagnosed as a sugarcat. I'm in the process of giving him his first week of insulin shots and adjusting his diet. I have so many questions and I feel so overwhelmed! I'm glad to have found support. I was sent her by the folks that run the FaceBook group. Nice to meet y'all!!!

Welcome to you and Miles to FDMB!!!!

I am a relatively newbie myself...just wanted to say ello and welcome you to the family!

You have found the absolute best place to learn all you need to know! There can be some information overload at first, but everyone here is so patient and helpful...

Welcome to FDMB!

Are you home testing? If not yet, please stall on the food change until you are testing. Switching to a low carb food may reduce the glucose as much as 100 mg/dL and drop the insulin dose as much as 2 units.

If you are home testing, we encourage you to use our grid system to store your test results insulin doses, and notes. It automatically color codes the test numbers so you can quickly see patterns. Instructions are here.

I'm not home testing yet. My vet switched Miles to a WD brand and has set him at a low insulin dose 2x daily. He's to have blood work again on Monday which will be 2 weeks. He spent the first few days there under observation. She said we'd address more management issues then.

Hi and welcome to the message board Kat and Miles.

Which insulin are you using?
What is the "low dose" you are giving?
